Hello mhat and welcome!

If I understand you correctly, you want to isolate your computer from file and printer sharing on the network, correct?

Open the main Norton 360 interface and go to Settings > Firewall > General Settings.  Look for Automatic File / Printer Sharing Control and turn it OFF.

Next, go to Settings > My Network > Network Security Map > Configure [+]

The Network Security Map should now open.

In the Network Security Map look for "Network Details" on the left side and click [ Edit ].

The "Edit Network Details" window will open. Go to "Trust Level" > [ Edit ].

The "Edit Network Trust Level" window will open. Set the Trust Level to PROTECTED and OK your way out.  Restart the computer.

Your computer should now show as Protected on the Security Map which will disable all file and printer sharing to and from your machine.

Let us know how you do.

Phil, I always wondered how this trick was done. Thank you for providing this information…Paul

You're welcome, Paul!

Ok thanks, i turned off the file/printer sharing, and it was already on protected, however, theres a few things under traffic rules where it still wont let me change it, im not what these mean but it still has

default allow inbound netbios (shared network), default allow upnp discovery(sn), default allow ssdp (sn) and a few more that says allow, but wont let me modify them

Okay, I now understand what you mean.

There are certain Traffic rules which by default are set to Read Only.  These rules are required to allow your computer to function normally and communicate with the local network and the internet.

You will also notice under each of these Read Only Rules, there is a Default Blocking rule.  This specific rule serves to block known port vulnerabilities, thus augmenting the Read Only rule.  In other words, your computer can function normally while still being protected from intrusions.

As long as your Network Trust Level is set to PROTECTED, no other computer on your network can access your machine.

You can also go into Control Panel > Network Connections > Properties > General and disable (uncheck) File and Printer Sharing.

My advice would be to leave the Traffic Rules set at their default level.  You are protected.

Thank you so much

Hi mhat,

You should not change the default General Firewall rules.  As Phil_D mentions, many of the Allow rules have a complementary Block rule.  Having your Network Trust Level set to shared will invoke the Allow rules.  A Protected network will operate under the Block rules.  Some types of communication always need to be allowed in order for things to work correctly.  There is a Firewall Reset option in the settings.  If you have made many modifications you should probably reset the firewall to prevent unintended connectivity issues.  Then just make sure your Network Trust Level is Protected and your computer will be off-limits to other devices on your network.

You can also block sharing via options in your Operating System.  The specifics vary depending on the OS you are using so searching Microsoft support should provide you with the proper procedure for your PC.
