About three weeks ago I went to purchase Intuit Turbo Tax like I have done for 10 plus years. The first thing I noticed was the price had almost doubled. After further research I noticed that the features that I need were no longer in the version I have purchased in the past. I needed to buy an even more expensive version to get the features I needed. My solution was to not purchase Turbo Tax and to buy H & R Block's tax software. It does everything I needed at more than half the price. If you go to customer reviews for Turbo Tax on Amazon's website you can see the beating Intuit is taking for their "Screw the customer" business model.
What does this have to do with Norton products you might ask? It is simple, Norton has embraced the "Screw the customer" model that Intuit has used this year. Every year when it is time to renew my subscription I have to spend my time looking for the best price for the Norton product I use. One would think that if you are a loyal customer like I have been over the years you could get a great deal from the Norton website and be done with it. But no that is not the case. If you purchase the new software key from Norton you are charged up to 30.00 dollars more than what you can buy it for from vendors such as Amazon.com. I have also read in the Norton forums that some people are buying their keys from the Russian Federation to take advantage to the currency rate to get a cheaper price. What a way to treat your customers, make them do a scavenger hunt for the lowest price. Right now the price to extend my subscription is 79.00 dollars on Norton's site and Norton Security is 57.09 at Amazon.
Another issue, just like Intuit, that Norton has done is discontinued Norton 360 and replaced it with Norton Security. They removed features from Norton 360 and call it Norton Security with backup at twice the price I paid for Norton 360 last year. If you want the features that were removed you can buy Norton Utilities for another 25.00 dollars unless you go to the Russian site then you may get it for 12.00 dollars.
What Norton has failed to understand is that there are a lot of good free anti-virus programs out there like Bit Defender free. Combine it with say Zone Alarm's free firewall and you have the basic tools you need to keep your machine safe. If you must have some of the features that Norton 360 has or had you can down load Glary Utilities which is also free.
Stop screwing with the people that pay your salaries. We will go elsewhere for a solution.
