Post moved to “Norton Internet Security / Norton Antivirus” board for better exposure.
I am using Internet Security on the PC, but do have a copy of Norton 360 that is good for 5 devices (got it with a new laptop), but this problem happened with my desktop, should I be using 360?
Hi Isaboy.
I see no problem with using Norton Internet Security if you do not want the extra features of N360 such as backup etc. I will ask for this thread to be transferred to the Norton Internet Security/Norton Anti-Virus forum where you will find better informed advice, though I suspect that sadly, if things are as bad as they sound at the moment, that you may need to go elsewhere to get this fixed.
If/when the thread is moved a marker will remain here to help you find the thread in the new forum.
P.S. Did you reboot?
Good luck.
Thank you
I appear to have a problem, early this morning; I had just watched a movie on the Solar movie website, then went to the Free TV website and started watching Star Gate the series, as Star Gate started the PC locked up, my mouse was suddenly not working and pop ups started coming up everywhere, everything from sex sites to products for sale, there was a mouse moving across the screen clicking on different ads on the screen, the power button would not work (power shut off), I finally got the Ctrl / Alt / Del buttons to work, I then had to use the arrow keys to move down the list and shut down Firefox, as the mouse was not working, I am using Norton, FireFox all latest editions and downloads/updates etc, I also have WinPatrol Pro and Adblock Plus 2.3.2 running with WinPatrol being the first thing to warn me I had a problem, but when I tried to close the screens coming up but only succeeded in opening more windows.
My question is since I have so many programs running for safely how did I get hit?
This email has been sent to all the program suppliers

360 offers the same protection as NIS.
Norton just wasn't capable of stopping your infection. No security program is able to stop 100%. A prudent precauting is to run the browser sandboxed; that way, if you get infected, you just empty the sandbox and it's like it never happened.
Sandboxed, please xplain

I would suggest you do a web search on "sandbox browser" and check out the articles you find. Basically, this involves running a process (your browser or program) in a secured section of memory on your system. All processes involved with the sandboxed item are kept contained in the secured memory separate from the rest of your system. This is a very simplified overview of a computer sandbox, so you should investigate and see what best fits your system and uses.
