what to do? i have read that it can be a problem running two anti-virus/spyware type programs. should i just get rid of spyware doctor? what should i do about the problems it came up with? one it found is 'backdoor.retro64' which it says is a medium level problem. i can't find it in the list online at symantic.com. what to do?
thanks for any insite. astara
If the Spyware Doctor comes with Antivirus, Its not a good idea to have 2 antivirus softwares running at the same time,
I would remove Spyware Doctor with Antivirus and download the Stand Alone Spyware Doctor without the Antivirus and then shouldn't have a problem
I have NIS2008 and Spyware Doctor version 6.0.0.362 and has no problems running both,
And doesn't hurt to have 1 or more spyware softwares installed.
Eraserone, you say that you would remove spyware doctor if it has antivirus, but then you end up saying that i can have more than one antivirus program installed. why have more than one installed, if you don't run them both. or...is it ok to run both, just don't remove problems with both?
thanks. astara

No i said you can have more than 1 spyware softwares programs installed a big difference between a spyware software and another virus software.
Having 2 antivirus software installed can cause conflicts between both of them.. Since i had NIS 2008 and Spyware Doctor stand alone. NIS has never picked anything except for a tracking cookie <G> And Spyware Doctor hasn't picked up a single thing. So to me having both is doing a good job. also have a couple of others spywares software to just to use to scan only. For me never hurts to have extra protection incase NIS or Spyware Doctor misses something, which my other free spyware software haven't picked up anything bad at all.. So pretty much my Computer is spyware and virus free <knock on wood> <G>
ok, thanks for the clarification. can i have spyware doctor remove any problems that it finds? (this is the free version that came with a google download so it may not remove anything at all).
and i'll make sure that i don't use a second anti-virus program.
thanks, astara

Of course remove anything that Spyware Doctor finds, i use the free Spyware Doctor came with google on a different computer.. :-)
The best thing you can do is run it on demand. So just run it once in a while. I work the same way
thanks to all who helped.

You should be able to use Spyware doctor both with NIS 2008 but that could affect your computer’s performance. If you decide, do not remove Spyware doctor and see how your computer will perform. If it’s not running slow, you can leave both programs installed. However, NIS is offers spyware protection too, although it missed this threat. Really no need for a second spyware program.
