previously I had Norton yahoo. Ever since they upgraded us to the new version I been getting errors telling me to turn on the vpn when Norton aol doesn’t come with a vpn. This happens several times a day. Anyone else have this problem and could you please fix it?
I have another norton account which I had for years because I can’t upload or share images with user8998 because it’s a new account so I am doing it on my old account.
Hello @user8998
Google AI Mode reports:
The current Norton security packages offered by AOL, such as Norton 360 with LifeLock Select, generally include a Virtual Private Network (VPN) feature.
Are you running Norton 360 with LifeLock Select offered by AOL?
Hello @user8998 fwiw ~ AI Mode
You are encountering a known issue where users of the AOL- or Yahoo-provided Norton Security software (which may not include the VPN feature) receive error messages prompting them to turn on a VPN after a product update. As a user, you cannot fix this software bug yourself, but you can use some troubleshooting steps or contact customer support for assistance.
Troubleshooting Steps
Since you’ve confirmed your version doesn’t come with a VPN, the error is a software glitch in the updated application.
Update Norton: Ensure your Norton application is running the absolute latest version, as the problem is known and an update (patch) may have been or will be released by the developers to fix it.
Open your Norton application.
Click on Device Security > LiveUpdate.
Restart your computer after the updates are installed.
Reinstall Norton: If updating does not work, a complete reinstallation can sometimes resolve issues caused by a bad update.
Use the official Norton Remove and Reinstall tool for Windows, or the appropriate uninstallation method for a Mac, to ensure all previous files are removed.
Temporarily Disable Notifications (as a workaround): Some users have found they can stop all notifications as a temporary measure if the issue is a persistent pop-up. However, this is not ideal as it means you may miss important security alerts.
Check Your Plan: Double-check your specific AOL/Yahoo plan features on the AOL Help website or by logging into your Norton account under the Subscriptions tab to confirm that Secure VPN is not, in fact, included in your current subscription tier. Some higher-tier plans do include the VPN.
Contact Support
The error is an interaction between the Norton software and your specific plan provided through AOL/Yahoo. For direct resolution and to report the ongoing issue, you should contact the official support channels.
AOL/Yahoo Support: Contact the support provided by AOL or Yahoo for your specific co-branded Norton product plan. They can help verify your subscription status and offer specific troubleshooting for their version of the software.
Norton Customer Service: For technical issues with the software itself, Norton support agents can provide real-time assistance and are aware of known issues like this one. Visit the Norton Support portal to get help.
I contacted Norton when I had Norton yahoo and they were unhelpful. He wanted to see receipts. I showed him my norton yahoo monthly receipt. Then he wanted to see one from me buying secure vpn. I told him I didn’t have one because I don’t own it. Didn’t see where that was coming from he could see perfectly well that i don’t have it installed on my pc. We were remotely connected. I never used Norton Secure.
About a month or two ago when I had norton yahoo. Yahoo is discontinuing yahoo Norton as well as other yahoo products forcing me to sign up for Norton Aol.
Ahh…so, the transition from Yahoo to AOL is within the last month or two?
May be time to try again. Maybe, try AOL support.
Maybe, Norton support is more aware now. Maybe, try Norton support…again.
Did you try clean Norton plan install.
Was the transition from Norton Yahoo to Norton AOL an in-place update?
I don’t know what you mean by in place update. I had to sign up for the aol plan from aol separately. I uninstalled aol norton a few times and reinstalled and it did no good. I may try aol support later this week.
Sorry, I meant did Norton change in-place from Yahoo logo to AOL logo…or, did you need to uninstall Norton Yahoo and then install Norton AOL. Since, you’ve clean installed Norton AOL a few times…then you’ve done all you can do your side. Thanks
It’s 6.99 a month and I know I can get it cheaper for Norton in the first year, but after that price goes way up. This way it is a low monthly charge and you don’t have to worry. Thank you though,
