I have the "Opposite" Notification Tray Problem

I looked at numerous threads in this forum that complain about _two_ icons showing up in the notification tray, but I didn't find any that said that none showed up.

New HP laptop. Win 7 Pro + SP1. MS Defender ships on it of course, but none of the usual third party security products often discussed in this forum was pre-installed. Has lots of HP bloatware.

NIS 21.1.1.7. Yeah, I know, I took a leap of faith. lol I was waiting for daylight savings time, I guess.

The NIS icon (a globe with a green checkmark) will not appear in the notification tray. Ever. Not once.

"Get Support" shows no problems with NIS.

I click Customize and set NIS to "show icon and notification." That doesn't work. I have restarted and done it again numerous times. Never works.

Remembering this is our first computer that runs NIS 21.x.

When I look at the Notification Icon Area (in the "box"), I see all the usual suspects for Windows 7 that also (and correctly) are not shown in the notification tray.

But in addition to NIS, there is one I haven't seen before: NortonNISDownloader.exe. I also set it to show icon and notification. Restarted. It also continues to _not_ show up in the notification tray. So now I'm 0 for 2.

I installed NIS 21.x about a week ago, so this isn't something that's just happening today.

Has anyone seen this with 21.x?
