I would follow stu's advice and Upgrade to N.I.S. 2009 as it has many added Protection Features as well as running smoothly on your system.
Also, I would have suggested that you Post this in the N.I.S. / N.AV. Forum. :)

If you have registered your Norton product in the Norton account, you can retrieve your product key. I suggest you to contact your the technical support team. They will be able to check whether there any Norton product registered under your email address.
You can contact them by following the link Tech support
If they are unable to provide you the product key, then you can contact your system vendor to get the product key.
Once you get your product key, you can upgrade your Norton product to the 2009 version by following the link http://www.norton.com/nis09

From what I understand you have an OEM version of NIS07 installed on your PC. When you bought the PC, was there an installation CD for NIS07 in the box, if so, uninstall your current version and use the CD to reinstall.
If not, I suggest you contact online support and they should be able to work something out for you.
Let us know how you get on.
Edit: Can you look in My Documents in the Symantec folder (if it is there) and see if it contains the product key.
hello i have a computer a bit less then a year old HP 2 gb ram 320gb hd 2x processer windows vista home premium yatta yatta but the problem is I cant do virus scans right now there is no side effects of a virus its running fine but for the futer i cant run virus scans because my virus definitions are not valid and to get them valid it refers me to a romovel of norton antivirus but it says that i will need my norton 2007 andivirus product key to reinstall the problem is that norton 2007 came installed when i bought the computer so i dont have the product key so I dont wanna uninstall it or I will have to go buy another one and I cant restore it cause if i restore my computer from when it came out of the factory all my documents programs exetra. will be deleted so can anyone help me please ??

Do you have a legit copy of Norton? if yes, than why can't you update it?
Normally I wouldn't advice this but in this case it might help.
please download v2009 from the Symantec website. You could just download a trial version. Than install it en activate it using your liocense. let's see if that will do the trick
