after a renewal offer is posted about 30 days before a current subscription expires, the setting of the automatic renewal option can't be changed online.
I was able to renew my subscription over the phone and the "Cancel Subscription Renewal" option is back in the space where a renewal offer had been posted.
In other words, after a renewal offer is posted about 30 days before a current subscription expires, the setting of the automatic renewal option can't be changed online.
bjm, I want to thank you for all your help and patience
Since, you do not want Automatic Renewal.
Please remove Billing Information asap.
Please note if you accomplish renewal at the price you want.
Since, you do not want Automatic Renewal.
Please turn off Automatic Renewal and remove Billing Information asap.
All you the reasons you listed above make sense. I am going to try next week to get through on the phone and renew for $39.99/year if possible— I'm not going to sign up for $104.99/year. In any case, I much appreciate your assistance and will let you know the outcome whatever it may be.
Attached is a screenshot of "Billing Information." I came up with a workaround because this site does not accept JPG files for uploading:
Take a Screenshot-->Insert (as a picture) into a Word document-->Save as a PDF file-->Upload the Word file to this site.

but in the meantime Norton had switched me to Automatic Renewal, which I now can't reverse.
@Opahujo
Other than the Email. How do you know your Norton subscription is Automatic Renewal.
Does your Norton account have billing information?
Can you remove Billing Information from your Norton account?
Curious, what does your Norton Security/360 main window -> Help -> Subscription Status report?

Maybe, opting Automatic Renewal recently .... just days before your current term expires.... just means Automatic Renewal will be in effect for the next term.
Maybe, you cannot reverse Automatic Renewal until current term subscription is acted upon....via Renew Now.
Maybe, it'll take a few days for your Norton account to reflect Automatic Renewal?
And until then your Norton account reflects Renew Now?
And until your account reflects Automatic Renewal on.... you cannot switch Automatic Renewal off?
Community users do not have access to your Norton account information.
Maybe, you need to clear browser cookies n' cache?
Maybe, you need Sign Out of Norton (main window and My Norton account) + machine Restart?
Maybe, you need to cycle Administrative Settings -> Remote Manager on/off/on + machine Restart and then check your Norton account?
Seems, like your Renew Now offer & Automatic Renewal email do not compute.
Please contact Norton Support to confirm one way or the other whats what with your Norton subscription.
The email is legitimate. Here is what happened: I was trying to renew my subscription when I noticed that nowhere was the price shown, i.e., I could not tell whether what I was being charged—$39.99 or $104.99. So I deleted my post before finishing it, but in the meantime Norton had switched me to Automatic Renewal, which I now can't reverse.
I'm 90 and not a novice when it comes to PCs and the Internet. Also, I have used Norton antivirus programs for several decades and reversing Automatic Renewal was always a simple matter. I am running out of patience and thinking about switching to some other antivirus program.
bjm, I do really appreciate your efforts to find a solution for my problem with the Automatic Renewal option. It's been my experience over the years that forums manned by volunteers are usually more helpful in solving problems than the sellers of given hardware or software products.
I received an email yesterday that said this: (The asterisk is not explained.)
"You’ve activated the automatic renewal for your Norton™ 360 Deluxe subscription and will now have the convenience of uninterrupted protection.
Also, if I were not enrolled in Automatic Renewal, I should see an option to do so.
Hmm ...head scratch?

Maybe, since you're subscription expires 10/22/2021. You see "Renew Now" offer.
Yes, I see "Activate Subscription Renewal".
Sorry, head scratch why you've received Email. "You’ve activated the automatic renewal for your Norton™ 360 Deluxe subscription and will now have the convenience of uninterrupted protection."

Your subscription will automatically renew unless and until you cancel it.
You’ve authorized us to automatically charge your stored payment method the annual renewal price, plus applicable taxes, before each renewal. Renewal prices are subject to change, but we’ll send you a notification email in advance.
You may change your subscription settings or cancel your automatic renewal any time at My Norton, or by contacting Member Services & Support.*
Also, if I were not enrolled in Automatic Renewal, I should see an option to do so.
On the My Subscription page, scroll down to your current subscription. Then to the right side you should see the option to Cancel Subscripton Renewal. Clicking that link will take you through the process of removing Auto Renewal.
