First of all is there anything running in your system tray now for security? When setting up any ISP you do not need to use there software. If Verizon had there own security software it was probably junk and you didn’t need to install it. Did you completely uninstall Norton? What version of Norton was it? Was it the Internet Security suite or was it just the anti virus? Norton 2009 products are out and I highly recommend them and upgrading to them. You should have serial number that came with your pc.

If you have the C.D. for Norton and you are sure that Verizon is fully un-installed, then go ahead and insert the C.D. and re-install Norton.  You will be un-Protected until you do this.

As D-man said, what Norton Product was it and how many Days are on your Subscription?

In addition to what Floating_Red wrote, is it an OEM version with 30, 60, 90, 180 days ? If it is, you have probably lost your remaining days. If you have a product key, just re-activate the program.

I'm guessing that the CD will probably reinstall the whole works and destroy any data that is on his machine.  E-machines generally does not give out installation CD's for each individual program installed.

If you have any important data on your system, make sure you back your data up first.

Download the product family that you were using first (Norton Antivirus or Norton Internet Security) from Norton Updates.

Chances are that the subscription key is still on your computer and will be picked up by this new installation.  Even if it isn't, you will have a 15 day free trial.  If your activated your product before, you will be able to find it through your online account which the new product will lead you to (if you select cannot find activation key when asked to provide it).  Regardless (as others have already pointed out), you cannot afford to be without protection for the meager benefit of a few free days left on the previous trial version.

For future reference, ISP's do not need to install their AV/Firewall packages on your machine in order to work or to provide you support.  You can opt out of that at the time of installation.  In fact, most of the packages they provide are useless merchandising stuff masking as support software.  When you purchase Broadband service, usually all you need is to plug in your computer; occasionally you need a little bit of this and that.  Be suspicious of entire packages.  Customer service (with the exception of Qwest) has usually been great.  They will walk you through by phone the very little bit you need to do to start using their service immediately.

Windows actually will set up your connection for you. The most you ever need to do is install the modem software depending upon what kind of modem you have.

DM just said it all, Daisy.
