I have Norton Internet security 2010 using Microsoft XP. My old PC-cillin would allow me to check the box to auto shut down the computer after a scan. Is this an option in Norton. I have not found a box to select. Is there a way to do this?
Hi Rubarbara
Welcome to the forum
Not that I can find.
The subject of Auto shut Down after a scan was discussed at length towards the end of the Beta testing of the NIS2010.
I tried the Link to that Topic, but all the beta testing posts , I believe, are now in an Archive.
All I get when going to that post is 'Access Denied'.
There were many for and against.
The main reason against, I think, was that if any threats were found that needed the users attention, they would be lost when shutting down, resulting in the possibility of your pc not being secure for longer than necessary.
It was mentioned that if threats were found , then not to shut it down, but then, you wouldn't know if your pc was going to shut down or not, which would defeat the object.
I don't know if Norton will look at doing something towards this for the 2011 Beta or not, that remains to be seen.
The option to shutdown on completion is available on Norton 360 Version 3.0, but it is not available with NIS/NAV 2010.
