Identity Safe client does not launch

I just installed Norton Identity Safe standalone client on a new laptop I got at work.

It's a Lenovo T420 running Windows 7 Professional 64bit edition (SP1).

This is the 4th PC I am installing identity safe at and, aside from endless crashes with Google Chrome which I got used to, this specific problem never happened to me before; here's the rundown:

1. I install the client (NortonIdentitySafe-EN-v1.exe downloaded today, 10-30-2013 from Norton website)

2. Installation seems to be successful

3. I get prompted for Norton account; I type my email address - all is good so far.

4. I get prompted for Norton password (NOT the Vault master password); at this point I type in the password and I get a 'wrong password' error - which is not, i used it dozens of times elsewhere and works fine.

At this point I realized that - within the client - the About tab where the version shows up is prompting for a reboot... so I follow through (this is Microsoft's OS after all).

After reboot, I double click the Norton Identity Safe icon in the desktop and... nothing... client never launches again.

The process is running in the task manager (NT*something.exe) but nothing ever comes up, GUI wise.

Obviously none of the browser plug ins come up either (Chrome's or IE's - I am not using FF).

IE is version 10 and Chrome is version 30

I am able to use it on a very limited basis by logging to the web interface here: https://identitysafe.norton.com/

... but this obviously does not suffice

Another thing I noticed: when i launch IE (10) the toolbar gets installed but only partially: it displays the Norton icon on the left edge and the 'safe' indicator right along it but the buttons allowing vault opening and access are just not there.

At first I thought this had something to do with my corporate IT policy blocking a port that Norton may be using but my IT admin says no way- nothing is being blocked. In my company they're using Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 for Windows as antivirus - firewall combo.

Any ideas, thoughts?

I tried using the Norton Removal Tool which did nothing to help :-(

I also tried the live chat with Norton support and I was told that they do not support the product (?!?!)  - i guess because it is free of charge(?)

Any help will be appreciated
