I have installed the latest Norton 360. Before installing I exported my safe settings. These were saved as DAT file. The 360 safe does not seem to allow imports once it is configured and back up restore will only read NPM. HELP.

Hi Senthilkumar
Thanks for responding. My product version for 360 is 5.1.0.29
- I backed up the identity safe using "Export" in the drop down menu under options in Norton Safe in internet explorer. The new version of identity safe does not have the same pull down. This gave me a DAT file.
- My previous product was Norton Internet Security 2012
- I have not followed the instructions you attached to back up BUT they seem to apply to 360. When I uninstalled the uninstaller asked if I was installing another Norton product and did I want to save the settings. I said yes but cannot find them anywhere.
- Is there any way 360 can get the information from a DAT file. It is easy from a NPM file but I do not have one.
Hi Thegardener,
Thanks for the update, I understand your problem.
From NIS 2012(latest) onwards, backup format has been changed from .NPM to .DAT, You have taken a backup of identity safe using export identity safe in NIS 2012( .DAT format)
NIS 2012 has different backup format .DAT when compared to N360 V5, (it has .NPM backup format).
You mentioned that you have saved the settings while un installing NIS 2012 and installing N360v5, Are you able to login with old identity profile after installing N360 v5 or have you configured new identity safe profile?
N360 v6 supports .DAT format, N360v6 is in beta stage. It will be released soon , not sure about the exact dates , If you have valid subscription, you can upgrade to N360 v6 with free of cost once it released and you can import your identity safe data(which you have taken in NIS2012) once you upgrade to N360 v6.
Please watch forum frequently for more updates about N360 v6 release
Hope this helps
Thanks,
Senthil
Thanks Senthil
I will await the new version with interest. I had hoped to improve things with 360 but it seems I am going backward.
I have another computer which I have not yet upgraded which still has the identity safe intact. Is it possible to save that as NPM format so that 360 can accept it.
Thanks again
Regards
Richard
Hi Thegardener,
In another computer which product do you have now NIS2011 or NIS 2012?
If you have NIS 2011 or N360 v5 , you can backup identity safe with .NPM format and you can import or restore that .NPM file to
N360 V5 which you have in another computer
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes?
Thanks,
Senthil
Hi Senthill
Unfortunately the other computer has 2012 so this does not help. If I upload the safe data onto the Norton site can I download it to 360?
Regards
Richard
Hi Richard
I would suggest you wait for N360 V6 release and once you upgraded to N360 V6 import the identity safe data which you have already with .DAT format.
Norton site means online backup? which one you are referring to
Hope this helps,
Thanks,
Senthil
Hi all,
I am a newbie here and technologically challenged so my apologies in advance for my silly questions.
I am in a similar position to you, thegardener. I currently have Internet Security installed and have just updated to 2012 version. I am looking at updating to Norton 360 but am concerned about losing my Identity Safe data as I have hundreds of passwords stored. My current subscription expires in about a week so I need to do the update ASAP.
I found the page regarding saving data, but haven't gone down the path of running the backup as yet. From what I have read in this thread it seems that you cannot successfully import identity safe data from Internet Security 2012 to Norton 360. Is that correct?
Thank you
Hi MaxieK,
Welcome to Norton Community,
Yes, You are right. From NIS 2012(latest) onwards backup(export) format of identitysafe data has been changed to .DAT, but N360 v5 supports .NPM format, So we can't import the identity safe data (which you have taken from NIS 2012) to N360 v5
If you use NIS 2012 , take a backup of identity safe data (NIS Main UI->Settings->Web->Log in to Identity safe->Export data)
Data file will be in .DAT format.
After taking backup of identity safe go ahead and install N360 v5
N360 v6 supports .DAT format, N360v6 is in beta stage and It will be released soon , not sure about the exact dates , If you have valid subscription, you can upgrade to N360 v6 with free of cost once it released and you can import your identity safe data(which you have taken in NIS2012) once you upgrade to N360 v6
Please watch forum frequently for more updates about N360 v6 release
You mentioned that you have just upgraded to NIS 2012, Do you have any identitysafe data backed up from NIS 2011(before upgrading to NIS 2012).
Thanks,
Senthil
Hi MaxieK
Frankly I cannot see a real advantage in 360. I would be inclined to stay with 2012. I certainly regret changing.
