Identity Safe Logins not displaying in toolbar

Hi all.

I just upgraded from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009.  I'm noticing some weird things with the "Cards & Log-ins" toolbar button.  In NIS 2008, I had 20+ logins, all of which showed up in the pulldown.  Now that I've upgraded, I can only see about 15 of them or so.  The rest won't show in the pulldown.

When I go into "Manage Logins," I see all of them intact and they still work like expected, but I'd really like to get the dropdown to show all of my logins.

Has anyone else seen this issue?  I'm open to suggestions....

TIA,

dw

Hi dw9357,

Welcome to the forum. I have had the same problem. You might want to look at this thread for the solution. It worked for me. :smileyhappy:

Hi Pro.

Thanks for the welcome.  I had actually read your thread, but I found even after deleting and re-adding it still didn't appear.

Is it possible there's a limit of 15 items in the dropdown?  Has anyone seen more than 15 items?  I'm surprised it doesn't have a scroll or something....

Thanks again,

Hi dw,

The Cards & Log-ins menu is definitely capable of displaing well over 20 logins. The first thing I would check when there is a discrepancy between the number of logins in the menu and the logins in the Manage Logins dialog is to check if the auto-submit setting is off for those logins.

1) Open the Manage Log-ins dialog and view properties of the logins that are missing.
2) For each login, check the checkbox labeled “Enable login to be auto-submitted” if it is unchecked.
3) OK out of the Manage Log-ins dialog and see if the logins are present in the Cards & Logins menu.

Hopefully that’ll do the trick. Please try that out and let us know the outcome.

Hi.

I tried what you suggested, and it didn't work.

In fact, even new logins that I'm adding won't show up in the dropdown.  As a test I added the login to this forum to my logins, and it isn't showing up in the dropdown either.

This is very frustrating.  If I knew this would happen, I would have stayed with NIS 2008.  Any ideas?

I know this will not answer your question on how to fix Identity Safe, maybe some will come up with the answer. But there is 2 softwares I have invested in on my computer, #1 Norton Internet Security (use it every day, don't even know it's there) and #2 RoboForm Pro. Norton has the security down excellently, but with the auto log-ins they need a little more work to do on it. After downloading the NIS 09 I also had problems with Identity safe. I also do a lot of work with web sites with 2 passwords (like Bank of America and Government web sites) that Identity safe could not do. I bought Roboform for about $23.00 (US) Lifetime License and I can log on to 2 password websites and a lot more. You might want to try that out, they do have a free version also. NIS and RoboForm work very good together. :smileywink:

Good to know, but part of the reason I bought NIS (instead of just NAV) was for Identity Safe.  So, I'm actually kinda pissed at these rookie mistakes.  I shouldn't have to buy another program to make up for the shortcomings.

Thanks though

Hi dw9357-

As a workaround, does it work for you to organize your logins in several folders?  Below are the steps to do so:

1) Go to the main NIS UI, then click "Manage Log-ins" in the Identity section.   Provide your password if necessary.

2) In the "Manage Log-ins" dialog, click the New Folder button and give your folder some name.

3) Select multiple login entries, right-click on them, then choose the appropriate "Move to folder:" target (the new folder).

4) Do this again to set up a few folders, each with several logins.

Can you arrange some folders to display all of your logins this way?  I understand that you are not seeing the expected functionality and we would like to collect more information about that issue.  But perhaps the procedure above will give you an acceptable workaround in the meantime?

Thanks,

Hi Matt.

Well, you'll love this.  Of the 19 logins I have, four don't appear in the dropdown.  I created a folder like you suggested, and put the four logins in that folder.  Even the folder doesn't appear in the dropdown!  The only way I can get the folder to show up in the dropdown is to add a login I can already see to it.  Then, I see the folder in the dropdown with only that one login.  Crazy.

So, it looks like IS is determined to not let me see these four logins.  Before you ask -- yes I've tried deleting them and re-creating them.  It just won't stick.

If you need to look at my box to help diagnose the issue, I might be open to that (but not thrilled)....

Hi dw9357-

Just some general questions about your issue:

1. What Windows version + language are you using?

2. What browser + version are you using?

3. What Norton product + version + language are you using?

4. Can you share any of the website names of the four logins you are having problems?

Thanks,

Matt

1. What Windows version + language are you using?

Windows XP Professional (SP3) English/US

2. What browser + version are you using?

Internet Explorer 7, fully patched

3. What Norton product + version + language are you using?

Norton Internet Security 2009 English/US.  *UPGRADED FROM NIS 2008*  Ran LiveUpdate as many times as possible until I saw no further updates.

4. Can you share any of the website names of the four logins you are having problems?

Yeah, you'll love this one:

https://www.mynortonaccount.com/amsweb/signOut.do

here's another:

https://www.wireless.att.com/olam/loginAction.olamexecute

There's nothing special about these.  If I navigate to them on my own, then Identity Safe will auto-fill the logins for me still.  But, I never see these guys in the Cards & Logins drop down.

Please advise.

Please don't forget me guys....

I've encountered nearly the same problem as dw9357. Except that I got only 11 from the drop down & I didn't

upgrade from previous version. I tried everything that's you guys suggested still problem not solved.

Hi citex03,

I sent you a personal message with some instructions to gather & upload debug logs. Click the envelope icon in the upper-right corner of the community forum. Many thanks to DW for also sending the logs, which I'm reviewing now to identify the cause of the problem.

Hi dw9357 and citex03,

We're still analyzing this to understand its cause. Had either of you stored logins to the affected sites in Internet Explorer prior to installing NIS? I'm referring to Internet Explorer's autocomplete setting to store passwords. If so, do you remember if you answered "Yes" to the prompt asking if you wanted to import logins from Internet Explorer after having set up Identity Safe?

I've never used autocomplete.  I hate that feature.  There were no logins to import, and I don't remember being asked to import from internet explorer.

However, I did import from NIS 2008 to NIS 2009.  Maybe the importer has trouble reading some NIS 2008 addresses?

DW

Hi DW,

Thanks, at least we can rule out the IE import scenario. Yes, it is a possibility that this occurred during the data migration from 2008 to 2009, though citex03 reported the problem without a 2008->2009 upgrade. Can you try deleting one of the affected logins, then visit the page corresponding to that login and save a new one? Does the login appear in the menu after having been recreated following those steps?

Thanks.
