I forgot to mention in my earlier post that I am using NIS 2008 with XP.
Thanks,
Bob
I have a few questions... What is the build of your NIS 2008. Is it 15.0 or 15.5 ? (Open NIS>Help and Support>About> Version).
Are you able to see identity safe under Internet Explorer or that also disappeared?
Are your passwords automatically filled up though Identity safe tool bar is disappeared???
Build is 15.0
IE still has ID safe
No, the fields do not fill in w/o the bar. A few site fill from Firefox not ID safe.
Bob
Can you open firefox>View>Toolbar>Show Identity safe toolbar.
Check if the option is already checked, Else check the option and then see what happens??
If it still does not work, Let me know.... I will tell you how to take a backup of your identity safe profile and then will help you in upgrading to the latest build(15.5).

I think to get Identity Safe support in FF3 you have to first update to 15.5
Thats a free update that you can find at http://www.symantec.com/newnis

That is correct; currently the compatibility fix for Firefox 3 will only be downloaded if you have updated to NIS 15.5 with the link provided by 4runner. Great job, thanks!
Thanks 4runner. This worked for me - eventually.
What a long winded process though.
Some notification on the issue from both Norton to its paying subscribers, and Firefox at the prompt to update to version 3, might have been nice..............
Sorry for delay response but out of town. There is no option for a Norton toolbar to be displayed.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi BobinVA,
Have you followed the steps earlier in the thread to update to 15.5? 15.5 is required for the toolbar to work in FireFox 3.
I am awaiting instructions on backing up my Identity Safe for the upgrade because I truly don't want to lose my information. Thanks for the inquiry.
Bob
1. Before updating your NIS version, here are the instructions to backup Identity Safe data: "How to backup and restore Identity Safe data in Norton Internet Security 2008"
2. Now you can download NIS 15.5, remove the previous version from "Add/Remove programs", restart your computer, and install this one.
3. Run LiveUpdate to get the latest updates.
I downloaded the 15.5 patch, uninstalled NIS2008, reinstalled via the new patch and now I can't get into my identity safe. It says my password is incorrect. Has anyone seen this yet? If so, is there a fix?
Thanks in advance.
when you back up your identity safe it allows you to put a password on for it, if you put one in enter that, if you did not use the option for a password then leave it blank when restoring it.
NOTE: *it is not referring to the password for your identity safe login, just the one you used when creating the back up*
i am pretty sure this is correct, this is how it worked when i used it
hope it helps... ;)
THCBlueberry,
Thanks for the response. In order for me to try to restore my identity safe it makes me log in. So, I can't even get to the restore option. I tried leaving the box asking for a password blank (as I didn't use a password when I backed up) but it just says the same thing -- "invalid pasword try again". Any other ideas would really be appreciated.
Thanks again.
Thanks to all for the help. I am back running FF 3 with ID safe correctly doing it's thing. The process outlined by Vejdin worked well. Thanks again,
Bob
Just an update on my issue. I spent about 2 hours chatting with Norton Technical Support the night before last. They were unable to help with my problem. Apparently my password to get into identify safe was corrupted somehow. The final "solution" recommended was to just reset my identity safe, lose all my data and start over. I explained that I have numerous passwords in the identity safe and it would be a big job not to mention a big hassle for me to go to every site and try to figure out what my log in name and password were. Needless to say, I'm extremely unhappy with Symantec right now.
So, be forewarned. The patch to make identity safe work with Firefox 3.0 is not yet working correctly -- at least in some instances. It doesn't do any good to backup identity safe because, without your password, there's no way to restore it.
Symantec have created a crazy, messy, time-wasting way of dealing with this problem.
Although the solution is a patch available through Live Update, NIS 2008 users cannot obtain it without first updating to a newer version 15.5 of NIS 2008. However, the download link does not make it clear that the update first uninstalls all of NIS and then, after rebooting, reinstalls the whole darn thing again! That is not what I call an update! That is not even a refresh. Is it just plain stupid or a reflection of lazy, incompetent design? Why not just change the few files so affected? Why not make V.15.5 available through Live Update?
I spent over an hour trying to do this only to have the reinstall fail. I know why it failed, too. Because I also have Norton System Works and Norton Ghost installed. I have previously been forced to uninstall all of these other applications before updating to newer versions of NIS and then reinstalling all the others again in order to successfully install just the newer NIS. And this so-called update proved to be no exception. The problem always occurs during the installation of the Live Update portion of the install. Apparently, Symantec's engineers cannot figure out how to check if an up-to-date Live Update module is already installed and skip it if is already present. Duh!!
Thank goodness I still have Go Back installed; it took a while but I was able to recover NIS version 15.0. I am in no mood to uninstall and reinstall everything all over again. I'll stick with the old Firefox for now, whatever the ensuing risks may be.
In the past I have always defended Symantec against its many detractors, but this episode is the straw that has broken my back.
Symantec just does not deserve the loyalty customers like me have given them over the years (going back to Norton Utilities for DOS). I just cannot understand why this patch must require so cumbersome an installation process.
stay on ff2 and nis 15.0.0.60... i have uninstalled NIS 15.5 and ff3 after the auto fill problems that norton/symantec dont seem to care about forced me to;
Identity Safe Auto Fill Problems
see that thread for more details
*NOTE: this thread is marked as "Solved", funny how you can class something as solved when all that has happened is that you have made it so identity safe toolbar shows and works on ff3.... but auto fill is.... lets say, USELESS!! ...for the use of a better word..

Please Note:
The "Solved" notatations in the forum are controlled by the ORIGINAL POSTER in the thread, in other words the author of the FIRST POST in the thread. In this case that is BobinVA, who got the answer he was looking for and marked the thread as 'solved'.
Since there is another more active thread on Identity Safe issues, I'm going to close this thread.
(also please note: this issue is not being ignored, the thread linked above will be updated as soon as additional information is available.)
