Hi,
I have a question about an identity theft technique that was used to steal a relative’s information.
I would like to know if Norton LifeLock would protect against such an occurrence.
There was a data breach at a utility and all my relative’s account information was stolen.
This included: Email, Password, Name, Address, Phone Number, etc.
The hacker then used the information and a purchased ESIMM card to disable the Cell Phone Number & switch it to their own number.
At this point the hacker was then able to use their new phone as a secondary identification mechanism for all of my relatives accounts.
They changed all the passwords, mailing addresses etc.
All inquiries now went to the hackers email & phone number.
The hacker Started acquiring new credit cards & making purchases.
The Hack was only discovered when my relative's cell phone went dead.
There was no way for my relative to prove to companies who they were because all of their information had been switched.
Would Norton prevent such a hack?
Thank you
