If VPN is activated the BBC website will not open. If remove the activation then the BBC website opens immediately

Hello johnhardy. If your geo-location is not in the UK, BBC will block your VPN connection. They also have legal and copyright reasons to do so. Changing your location in the VPN settings may help. Of course that is hit and miss due to most VPN’s leaking you actual IP address and the BBC see it.
If you us IPv6 Norton VPN is know to leak using it thus, your actual geo-location is exposed.
If you ARE in the UK and have a valid license to BBC content the issue should be address with BBC concerning why they are blocking your connection. Here are some things to try to correct the issue on your end.

Many thanks for your excellent explanation. Strangely the problem seemed to vanish and a while later BBC was working as normal.

When you are on your home network having your VPN not enabled doesn’t present as much of a risk as does not using your VPN when on public WiFi or other public networks. As a rule of thumb, any time you are doing banking, shopping,etc. I would use my VPN to be safer.
