Hi, I use Win XP SP3 and NIS 2008 finds the Infostealer.Banker.C virus\trojan.
I've tried using the removal method in this link http://securityresponse.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2007-040208-5335-99&tabid=3 doing exactly as it says and it does not work.
When I'm using the recovery console in point 2 in the removal tab I can get into the system folder, but there are no ntos.exe file or any of the other files/folders mentioned in the removal tab.
There are no modifikations to the hosts file and none of the registry entries in the removal tab shows up when I use regedit.
Every time the pc does a complete system check it finds the virus and is unable to remove it from my system. What can I do?
I would also recommend that you follow the steps listed in the How To Troubleshoot a Suspected Malware Infection announcement. Please keep us posted on the progress of this issue. Thanks!
When the options of Huwy and Tony won’t work please contact us at the forum. We will look for other options
By exporting the search result (freely translated from norwegian version of NIS) i found out which file the virus came from, deleted it from my computer, restarted, complete system check and no more virus
I'll do a new syscheck in a few days to see that I'm virus free.
Thank you all very much for your help, the scan now goes much quicker after using disk clean.
Good news! Don't forget to empty out the recycle bin and temp files, if you haven't done so, in case what you deleted is still there!
DiskClean in the hard drive Properties / General tab can do this if you check the settings when you open it.
While waiting for a more specific answer, you might try emptying the recycle bin and all temp files, say by using the DISKCLEAN function built into Windows – Right mouse click on the drive in question and select Properties / [Disk Clean] and see that at least Temp files and recycle bin are checked. You may want to make sure that there are no checkmarks against files that might be needed for troubleshooting, like system logs or installation logs.
