This has been going on for years, but I am finally going to question openly. I just went to renew my 360 package, and was told it would be $159!!! OH MY GOODNESS!!! SERIOUSLY?? When I asked the rep to discount to the current Amazon price of $29.99 (yes, really - see below), he said he could give me a price break to $89.99. LOL!! I just said I could get for $29.99, and he is going to offer the great discount of $89.99??
WHY must Norton make it so unreasonable difficult and costly to renew?? Shameful that they probably get a lot of people actually paying the full price of $159.99 only because they don’t pay attention or don’t know they can get for that much less.
Please take the time to call in, COMPLAIN, and ask for the lower renewal pricing!! Or, just give the business to Amazon and avoid the hassle and time of calling Norton directly.
This goes on in many other venues like pricing for Comcast where 1st year customers get a great deal but loyal customers have to pay a higher price.
Also, other vendors like Bitdefender and Kaspersky have similar renewal deals for existing customers while giving new customers a lower price.
In my opinion you should always strive to do whatever you need to do to get a lower price but I guess some people are willing to pay much more for convenience.
Completely agree. DirecTV is another example. However - and this is key to my complaint - to my knowledge, most of these other companies increase renewal rates by a percentage, sometimes double the “new” pricing. Norton has literally set this at a 5x rate! Charging 5 times what I can get it for off the shelf is absurd, and almost unethical (in my opinion).
Personally, I really appreciated AT&T coming out with their pricing that says current customers should get the best pricing available! THAT, is how you keep customers!
At least Norton allows you to cancel automatic renewal and purchase from a reputable source at the lower prices. Many other subscription services can make you wait for 6 to 12 months after the initial subscription expires before allowing you to sign up again at the new customer prices.
