Installation fails on Mac 10.8.3

I am attempting to install Internet Security 5.4.1 on a Mac operating system 10.8.3.  When I try to install, the installation seems to go fine, then abruptly ends with the following message:

Installation Failed.

We cannot activate your product due to software installation problems.

There is no indication of what those problems were, or what to do.  I have tried to install multiple times , but I keep getting the same error.

Attached is a screen shot of the error I get.

Any ideas?

Hi maccaigari,

Sorry about the problem and glad to hear the activation was successful after the reboot.  Can you please post the information about the version once again?  The NIS version 5.4.1 doesn't have a full installer (it was shipped as a LiveUpdate to NIS 5.4).

You can check the version from the installer file inside the DMG.  Mount (double click) the NIS Installer DMG, and right click (command-click) the file Norton Internet Security Installer and select the Get Info.  The window will show the field Version.

The version on the DMG is 5.4f77.

Also, I had to specify the SymUIAgent application as a Login Item in my profile to get Norton to completely work.  A Setup Assistant started up after the reboot, but it abended due to a "missing plugin" (The error didn't mention what the missing plugin was).  Anyway, at this point everything seems to be running normally.
