Installation Repair

When running Norton Autofix and Norton does an installation repair (some require a reboot), is there any folder where to find exactly what has been repaired so I can understand why?

This has been around since the early days of Norton Internet Security and I never understood it. Thank you!

Still happening many years later....

Years later and this still happens with no explanation or reason.

i dont think manny company do it microsoft ubisoft ect only to the new full version patch 22.22.2.10

Indeed!! The information there is about all that Norton makes available at the user end of the spectrum. A diagnostics log would certainly be a hge plus for everyone to at least see the reason(s) for what the auto-fix is about, especially to determine whether it was related to the Norton installation, the OS or other software and drivers causing the conflict. Having that information with IE: fault codes, etc. make diagnosing far easier. Maybe a fresh suggestion in the product suggestions board is in order.

Jimbo41:

I see the two entries but it doesn't tell me anything. See screen shot.

Yeah....not much info. Sorry

Norton Autofix is a diagnostic tool that checks for common problems with your Norton product and automatically fixes them.

Thanks SA. I right clicked on the icon in the bottom right system tray and changed to Full History. I see the two entries but it doesn't tell me anything. See screen shot.

Thanks for the info, but where is Norton History?

Open Norton 360 for Classic window

The latest version of your Norton product opens the My Norton window up on launch. The My Norton window acts as a dashboard where you can view and manage your device security features and other entitlements. However, you can configure Norton to launch the Classic view when you start your Norton product. For more information, read My Norton product looks different.

If your subscription includes Norton Secure VPN but you cannot access the feature, your Norton product is in the Classic view. Access to certain features is available only through the My Norton window. In such cases, you may have to switch between the My Norton window and the Classic view.

Switch to the Classic view is not available on Norton 360 for Gamers.

 1. Start Norton.

If you see the Norton classic window, click My Norton.

Thanks for the info, but where is Norton History?

Hello Jimbo41. Although there isn't a specific 'log" for that action being taken the most likely place to look would be in your Norton history within the main user interface. In the drop down menu select Full History and scroll through the entries to find one related to auto-fix. Highlight it then click "more options" in the lower part of the right hand box to view more details.

Hi Jimbo,

As F 4 E stated - it is a "quirk" that Norton is well known to have and the bad thing about it is that no matter what is reported as repaired when Using Get Support, us users have to take the function's word for it as it is not listed in any History or anywhere else what was actually fixed. I have gotten into the habit of running Get Support a second time if I get a repair action the first time.

I just ran Get Support and ended up running it again because it fixed my installation:

Auto fix.PNG

Auto Fix2.PNGAs many times as we have asked to be able to see what was corrected, it has never happened, so I do not expect any word from a Norton employee because of your request. Sorry.

Jimbo, since you at on Windows 10. Having "fast boot" enabled will cause this issue. The system sometimes doesn't perform a full and clean shutdown and errors persist. Disable that setting and reboot, then recheck for your issue. Here is how to change that setting. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/windows-881-or-10-and-fast-start-feature-0

Cheers

Hi, Jimbo. One of those quirks Norton is famous for !

If all else is ok, I wouldn't worry.

You can always do a reinstall if you want a fresh copy.
