Installing Norton 360 version 4 over Norton 360 version 5

I just purchased Norton 360 version 4 at a really good price and will install it when my subscription runs out in about 60 days.  I have Norton 360 version 5 on my computer since Symantec makes it available for free.  I have about 1 GB of files backed up to the Norton Online Server.

My question is:  If I have to remove version 5 to install version 4...will I lose my connection to my backed up data?  I figure my Norton account will maintain that info but I am not sure.  Worst scenario is that I would have to restore my PC, with a Ghost image, to when it was version 3 or 4 then install the new version 4 but I don't want to do that if I can help it.

Any ideas?

Thanks, that makes sense.  Should I close this now or wait until I renew in 60 days?

Thanks again.

Please see the additional comments in my preceding post.  You can activate at any time, but you will lose whatever remains of your current 60 day subscription, so waiting would be more advantageous.

Sorry, in my haste, I guess I didn't see your other comments.  I'm also NOT a good listener.  : (

At any rate...when I had Norton 360 version 3, Symantec allowed a free upgrade to version 4 that would be good through the remainder of one's subscription.  In that case they actually had you download an installable file that, if you saved the download folder, you could re-install version 4 later on, if you needed to for whatever reason, and avoid having to reinstall version 3.

They did the same thing with version 5 except it isn't obvious where the downloaded file is on my PC.  I kept getting a notification on my PC to take advantage of the free upgrade to version 5.  At first I thought there was probably a catch, but, there isn't.  It is good through the current subscription.

Thanks again for the help.  I will wait until my subscription is close to expiring to renew.  I got version 4 from discount mountain software for $27.50, free shipping. I wish you could get it for a single PC as it might be even cheaper.

They insist it is full retail no strings attached so I will see when I install it.

Hello lpleb,
I believe the folder you are referring to is: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Norton\ atleast that is the directory I see on my WinXp home system. However just to confirm that with a valid current key you can download the latest version of 360. There are different links for the different OS's and the different types of 360 subscriptions. Possibly the easiest way of upgrading is to use the 360 program by opening the UI and clicking on 'Support' and then 'Check for New Version'.
If you haven't done so already I would suggest going and registering your account ( www.mynortonaccount.com ).
I would think there are a minimal amount of reasons one would want or need to go back to an earlier version not to mention that unless you have an earlier version saved on your system it gets quite difficult (at least for me) to find an earlier version available on the Symantec site or any of the authorized retailers.
And with that I'll let you get back to what you are doing as you are in very good hands with those that have already responded in this thread.
Oh, I almost forgot as that is the absolute lowest price I have ever seen for the 360 product (even with the discount of having a current/prior Symantec product) and am interested to see what others say about that as it makes me wonder.
Take care,
Mumford68

Since you do have version 5 installed, all you have to do is enter and submit the new Product Key.  No uninstalling or reinstalling, or upgrading or downgrading necessary,
