I have Norton 360 v2 (2.3.1.4)

I am trying to install the Add-on pack but when I go to install it, I get an error:

I get the licence agreement, tick Accept, and then a box comes up titled "[CoBrandedProductName]", then a short time later a message saying "Norton Add-on Pack has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".

I have contacted Tech Support previously about this problem but got no where. They asked me to remove everything using the removal tool and then re-install but no difference.

In the end I reformatted my C drive and then installed only the Network card and graphics card drivers before installing Nortons. Still wouldn't work--exactly the same error.

Also, after I have attempted to do an install, Norton 360 turns off 'automatic protection'. Strange.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, particularly if someone else has encountered this problem.

Thanks.

You say that automatic protection is turned off. What happens when you try to re-enable auto protect?

No problem--it just turns back on again.

I only mention it as a symptom of the problem, in case this will give someone a clue as to what it going on.

This cobranded issue has come up before elsewhere. It should say Norton I believe.

I suggest that you try this link. It is not your problem I know, but the piupdate resets certain information and this may resolve the issue.

By the way, did you apply the zombie workaround as you are using Winxp. If not search this forum. The zombie has nothing to do with your problem I feel sure, but you might as well be aware of this. Also have you had any shutdown issues?

Solved it!

I was actually trying to solve jgjimenez 's problem re downloading the Add-on pack. I remember that when I was originally having problems, I was able to download the Add-on pack from different Symantec sites. While I was exploring this, I downloaded another copy of the Add-on for myself.

And discovered that it was a different version to what I had! I had downloaded v1.1.0.38 just a few days ago (July 19, 2008) but now when I downloaded from somewhere different, I got v2.1.0.55. (I haven't been able to reproduce this, not sure where I got the older version from--there are so many ways to get to things on the various Symantec sites--I would have started on the Australian site previously, but this time I started on the US site.)

And it worked fine!! I'm happy now.

Thanks, goldman. Really appreciate you trying to fix it.

Glad it is resolved, Maybe the first pack was for Norton v1 and now you have Norton v2. In any event, a resolution indeed.

Thanks CGoldman (do you do anything else but live on this forum??!!)

Yes, I'm sure you are right. I just reproduced it. I didn't realise that there was a different Add-on Pack for each version. Might be helpful for them to add a note to pages like this http://service1.symantec.com/Support/custserv.nsf/docid/2007021308572546?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&ct=us that allow you to choose v1 or v2.

(Pity no one at tech support thought to ask me what version of the add-on pack I was using--it was such an easy solution!).

Thanks again, and now I know where to get the best tech support--right here!

In case you ever have to uninstall that Add on pack, dont forget that Symantec has a special backup tool just for the add-on pack. So if you do uninstall you can at least preserve the settings. You’ll find the link in this link

Thanks cgoldman.

Unfortunately the link you gave me is dead.

I removed the garbage from the end of the link provided by cgoldman (translation: i fixed the link 2 message up and it works now), but I'm not sure if that is the thread he meant to link.  That thread IS a discussion about the removing and re-installing but it does not address the addon pack (however it does discuss BUDUMP for keeping settings related to online backups).

You can however read about Exporting your add-on pack settings using the BackupAOPSettings.exe migration tool by clicking here.

Thanks for the fix. The link is the one I intended. It was edited to include after budump reference to BackupAOPSettings.

Whilst you are waiting for an information response, you might care to post your operating system and release e.g. WinXP Home sp3.

Sorry to hear that you have already reformatted hard drive and reinstalled operating system. If there are any other message or boxes you can click for more information of the problem, kindly post.
