Installing Norton360 on new laptop

I have a 2 year subscription for 3 computers but I use it on only 2 computers.. mine and my daughter's.. my daughter's old laptop recently died and we decided to get a new one.. this new one uses Windows 8.. but the Norton 360 disc I have is for Windows7.

How can I install Norton 360 on my daughter's new laptop please?

If you can follow the blabberings above - be my guest - but I must tell you the sequence is incorrect.

The first thing you must do is check to see if there are any trial antivirus programs acitvated on the new laptop. If there is you will have to uninstall them first via the Control Panel's Programs & Features and then clean up using that products removal tool.  Please note this also applies for a trial of Norton (other than N 360) since that is what you will be installing.  If you need assistance finding a removal tool for a product, please let us know.

After doing the above, the instructions for going to the Norton Account, logging in and clicking on the Yellow Download Button are correct.  It is not necessary to reboot prior to running LiveUpdate.  However when running LiveUpdate reboot when requested and continue running LiveUpdate until such time as it specifically replies "no updates found".  There4 is no need to reboot after every run of LiveUpdate - only when requested.

The info about the freeing up of the license pertains to logging into Norton Management, going to the My Devices Tab and deleting the installation (device) from the old laptop by clicking on the garbage bin.  Let us know if you need more info on this area.

The next two paragraphs basically do not apply to your situstion as you have accomplished the first step of removing any trial antivirus program that was installed from the manufacturer of the new laptop.

Also, as it is a new laptop, I doubt there is any personal data on it, however, you may desire to backup any personal data you have on the old laprop (if possiible) as well as Exporting ID Safe login, password and card info if you used it on the old laptop.  If you can Export, please do so in both CSV and DAT Format and I would suggest saving it to a USB drive. Of course that is assuming you can still get to it on the old laptop.

If you have any more questions/concerns it is better to ask prior to doing.  :smileywink:

Erica,

Just let me add one thing to Yank's clear andlogical reply:

The version of N 360 you have on your disk which you describe as for WIndows 7 would in any case be the original version as released whenever .... so you should not use that even on a Windows 7 computer since there is a route for reinstalling which will give you the current version with only a minimum amount of updating.

This is part of Yank's reference to going to Norton Account and will give you the current 2013 version even if it was an earlier version you used when you first created that account.

Hi yank

Why are you the only one who does this to my posts?

Most of your post is what I have posted.

You are being offensive and personal and not only on this post.  The forum guidelines state no personal comments.

I would be grateful if you could stop this behaviour as people who post for information don’t need to have to sort through the posts while the cause of sorting through the posts is a level of criticism.

What I have posted is sufficient to perform the requested task.

A short answer to your comments is impossible, so please post the steps in the order they need to be accomplished, include links so the OP's can follow your instructions to run the tools required, and lastly, I am not singling you out - I am correcting things so that the OP's do not  really mess up their systems.

There is nothing personal in my posts - although you may think so, as I said before you just don't get it do you?  Perhaps I am the only one saying anything as I do not care who I please, as long as the users who ask the questions get the correct answers, in the correct order, with the correct lnks and correct instructions for their systems and products problems.

Lastly, I totally agree, the people who post for information don't need to sort through the posts to gather information - most of them need clear instructions presented in an orderly manner and need the information that applies to their posts, their products and their operating systems - not general haphazardly arranged comments.

Pack it in??   Now that sounds like a personal comment to me???

Hi EricaThompson

My apologies for this type of activity on your thread, it is not normally like this and I hope that in the future if you need to post on this forum you will as there are some helpful people giving their free time.

Hi yank

You wrote the below statement,

so please post the steps in the order they need to be accomplished

You did a similar thing on the link below that person didn’t seem to have any problems with my post but you did?

You wrote the below statement,

include links so the OP's can follow your instructions to run the tools required,

I explain where they can get to the link or the tool

You wrote the below statement,

I am not singling you out - I am correcting things so that the OP's do not really mess up their systems.

I have posted around 400 times and no one has said its messed up their computer.

Your post number 3 on this thread.

Makes no reference to making the computer safe with security software so are you just assuming there is security software active on the computer if anything is going to mess up a computer its going on the web with no security software active?

You wrote the below statement,

There is nothing personal in my posts - although you may think so, as I said before you just don't get it do you?

Contradiction and ambiguity, you say nothing personal and then you say, you don’t get it, I do get it, its contradiction, you post after me to criticise my post and then complain about me posting after you when you agree the information I posted is correct then criticise me for not enough detail while at other times you complain about to much detail, that I don’t get because its contradiction?  If you would like the links to what I am referring to I can provide them?

There is nothing personal in my posts, you say what do you call, blabberings above on this post and on other posts rambling and silliness, yet more contradiction?

Pack it in yank, is more of a request than a personal comment it is not a derogatory description.

Maybe you can see your way clear to accommodating my request in the future?

Hello Erica,

Norton 360, Norton Internet Security, and Norton AntiVirus are fully compatible with Windows 8. The latest releases are optimized to make Windows 8 safer and faster compared with running Windows Defender on Windows 8. Norton also released a companion application called Norton Studio which is available now on the Windows Store.

Norton Studio

  • Companion app to Norton 360, Norton Internet Security or Norton AntiVirus that enables you to manage, fix, update or renew Norton protection for your devices from within the Windows 8 user interface
  • Shows an at a glance the security status of their PCs and other devices
  • Seamlessly integrates with Windows 8 for easy, one-click access from the new user interface desktop

The disc you have was released when Windows 7 was the latest and greatest. If you want to help ensure you have the latest version on first install you can download the trial version. When it installs you can use your pre-existing product key to activate it. The trial can be downloaded via this link

You can follow the directions outlined earlier in this thread or reach out to support via chat. I'm also happy to assist you directly if neither of those options work.
