I installed Intellegent Updater a month ago to solve the problem of having to wait for 55MB updates slowly coming in from LilveUpdate. It did luckaly, what it spose to have done. Anyway at first it solved the problem but now I reinstall NAV followed by that Intelligent Updater I used and I have the same old problem of having to wait for 55MBs to install. Hold on, you *&@# program! I already updated you.
Not as intelligent than what you are namely acclaimed for
So now what? Wait forever to download updates!?!?
And please Symantec fix your IgnorantUpdater or whatever product is causing this.

I used Intelligent Updater v5i32 in hopes to update my antivirus first but it had no affect on the size I had to download from LiveUpdate.
So what you’re saying is to manually (click with mouse) on Live Updates, anyway thats where I have to wait for 55MB s to download. Ohwell I guess I might have to wait.

How do u get LiveUpdate for this site again?
Hi callumscan,
Which version of Norton Internet Security are you running? The reason I ask - you're probably not getting virus definitions through LiveUpdate, but rather actual PRODUCT UPDATES. If you want to update your product directly, go to the Norton Update Center and select your current product and version. It will display the most current available update. Intelligent Updater gives you the latest and greatest virus definitions for your product, but no product updates, which is why you'd still get the LiveUpdate downloads appearing. Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding your situation.
Intelligent updater downloads the full Virus Definition package on demand by you. It is not something that you install and then it will update by itself after that - that is what you seem to be saying.
Live update will install whatever updates are necessary and they are usually quite small updates. You should only use intelligent updater if you have issues where you believe your virus defs are not getting updated via a normal automatic update.
Actually Norton Antivirus 2009 v 16.0.0.125 . No I'm not getting product updates through there just mainly definitions. But Iwanted to slove the problem of waiting forever for LiveUpdate to download 55MB, which to me is an hour and a bit so I downloaded the IntelligentUpdater (v5i32) so most of the udates are installed and I'd only have to wait for say 3MB to download. But that only worked for me once. Now I had to reinstall the product and it didn't work, LiveUpdate said I had to wait for 55MB to download then after installing IntellignetUpdater still 55MB. I iunistalled and reinstalled numerous times to hope its some hickup but the same think kept resulting.
Im sure you're misunderstanding my situation, sorry. IntelligentUpdater is ment to update your definitions, yes, thats what Symantec said from that web page where you download it. Even if IntelligentUpdater is only definition based, LiveUpdate shouldn't have me installing 55MB after runing IntelligentUpdater due to 55MB is what I had before. -- IntelligentUpdater said it sucessful installed all its updates, however not what NAV claims.
Intelligent updater shoud have solved this problem but it didn't, It only did once! Strange! Anyway IntelligentUpdater would have been a good tool to get everything all at once only instead of having to download 55MB EVer-Y-Tiiime have to reinstall some of my apps (Norton, MS Word, Games etc.) or format. That would have been a good tool because that 55MB update is going turn in 77MB in a few months. That number isn't going to get smaller.
I understand that IntelligentUpdater downloads ony the updates before you downloading the file. Tipically files dont update themselves once in my HHD - Programs and viruses usually do that sort of thing.
Since I installed IntelligentUpdater it shoud have an effect on how much I have to download from LiveUpdate; It shouldn't stay at 55MB is what I'm trying to say.
Actually Norton Antivirus 2009 v 16.0.0.125 . This is not the lastest version on NAV 2009 - the Norton Update Center can give you the latest available version, which right now is 16.5.
No I'm not getting product updates through there just mainly definitions. What I was driving at is the unknown 55MB download is probably the product update to 16.5, and if you go to the Update Center, you can download the update directly. Then, when LiveUpdate in your product contacts our update servers, it will see that you have the latest and NOT trigger the 55 MB download through LiveUpdate.

It seems that the assumption is LiveUpdate *only* delivers virus definitions, but it delivers product updates among other things. If I see a 55MB download coming through LiveUpdate, I'm relatively certain it's a product update... actually updating the NAV 2009 software to a higher version.

Where is 16.7.2.11? I've been waiting a week solid. I've run LiveUpdate more than usual. Yet here I sit and wait?
I love how you at Symantec write a thread and say things like "No E.T.A" basicly saying you have no idea. Why is it that I've been a Symantec customer for 10 years and I'm waiting on a simple patch that allows me to browse safely using Firefox?
Okay thanx :) So usually when a download is that big it’s a product update? ah good To avoid this long wait downdoad newer version? ah good. The only bad thing is if you wanted to wait for a big file size like this to download and you needed to shut down your computer 1/2 way so I think there should be a thing in the norton product where it rusumes the download (where you left off) next time you start. Just an idea.
If I understand correctly what you are trying to do, I'm afraid Intelligent Updater won't be very helpful. It will allow you to install virus definitions without using LiveUpdate, but not to get a head start on your LiveUpdate definitions. The 2009 Intelligent Update package has a different binary format (backwards compatible with 2008) than the 2009 LiveUpdate definitions. When you run LiveUpdate, it has to download a new defs set to transition back to LiveUpdate mode and start bringing down highly efficient delta definition packages.
LiveUpdate actually does automatically resume where it left off if you cancel mid-way. Note, however, that if you resume after new definitions have been published, it will start downloading the new definitions rather than resume download of an out-of-date definitions set.
