Completely in the dark on this solution. The only thing I did was run a full system scan every day for weeks and weeks, before I did this I made sure that my p.c was up-to-date with windows updates and also I ran a Norton Liveupdate before each and every scan. The same crash happened everytime… 1 week ago I ran the scan in the normal procedure and for some un-known reason the scan went past the normal crash point and I have now ran 3 successful full system scans without any problems, infact the scan seems to be working that little bit faster. Symantec have said that they had isolated 2 possible causes for the crash problems one of which has been patched and the other one is yet to be addressed, maybe my crash problems were related to the problem that symantec had patched. I didn’t download a patch or anything the scan just worked all of a sudden, I have read about this happening to someone else too. I also read if you have a norton product which doesn’t show what live updates are being installed then if you type in the search box luall this brings up norton live update but it is the update version like in norton 2007 which shows you what updates are available to you so that way you can see what you are downloading, I used this version of updates to be able to see what was downloading. Hope this answers your question. Thanks, Karen.
Hi stargazerlily94,
Sorry that your post has been up here so long without a response - that's unusual.
The point where the scan is freezing I believe is the distribution folder for Windows Updates.
Just as an experiment, try turning off Windows Automatic Updates, restart the computer and see if you can run a full Norton Scan without freezing. You can turn them back on later.
I understand that you want to get the computer back to your daughter! A lot more Forum members should be coming on line soon, so I'm sure we'll get a fix for you.
Let us know how you did with the above procedure.
