Internet Security for Mac: Firewall: Location Awareness

I have been getting the following error when trying to configure my Location Awareness settings in the Firewall. "Error to connecting settings. An error occurred (Lazy fetch attempted to unknown value) trying to read or write settings. Please try restarting your computer." I have restarted and I get the same error. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately this means your settings file has become corrupted. There's not a really good solution, but several workarounds. The easiest is to reset the settings files, which means your location awareness settings will be lost, but you won't receive the alert anymore.

But before we go down that route, do you get this alert every time you open the application? If so, please contact me via a private message that contains your email address? I will try to send you some instructions to help us diagnose the problem, and will hopefully resolve the error message without you losing any settings.

Hello Ryan,

Can you share how to rest the Location Awareness Settings?

To reset the location awareness settings you'll need to use the command line. There is no way to do it from the Norton Firewall application.

1. Disable Location Awareness in the Norton Firewall application and restart your Mac.

2. Launch the Terminal application (in Applications -> Utilities).

3. Copy and paste the following:

sudo rm -f /Library/Application\ Support/Symantec/Settings/1/com.symantec.locationawareness*

Be sure to get everything, including the star.

4. Press return if required, and enter your password when prompted.

5. Launch the Norton Firewall application and re-enable Location Awareness. All of your locations will be gone, but you should not receive this error anymore. If you still have locations in your list, repeat theses steps, making sure all Norton applications are closed.
