When I first start computer and try to go on Internet Explorer it loads extremely slowly. I then disabled Norton Internet Security 21.1.0.18 version just to see if there is any difference - IE9 loaded fast with Norton shut off. I tried going back to IE8 and made no difference. What used to be fast loading is now taking several minutes at first start. Any thoughts on why the new Beta 21.1.0.18 NIS would do this at start up? before updating to this version my IE9 and IE8 prior to that loaded fast.

Hi,
Just a small note - v21 isn't a beta. It is the current version of the product.
What security product were you running prior to installing NIS v21.x?
Take a look at the setting for "Enable Boot Time Protection"
Open NIS -> Settings -> Computer -> last line in the right pane

Thats weird because someone in the Forums said 21 is a Beta and today I went on Norton Beta site - way on right hand side in red under Beta Trial Software: listed Norton Internet Security 21 (my version is 21.1.0.18)
http://us.norton.com/downloads/?inid=us_hho_topnav_downloads
okay the version I had prior to 21.1.0.18 was 21.0.1.3 and it upgraded right away to that 21.1.0.18 the last one I liked that worked well was 20.4.0.40 may go back to it.
went into settings computer, last line - enable boot time protection is set to OFF but shows GREEN???? others that are shut off are RED???? what is going on? I toggled it and it goes from off to Normal to Aggressive, I shut off again.
maybe some gliches in this new version?
Hi Calchick74
You might like to try setting boot time protection to aggressive, then click apply, click ok, close all programmes and restart the computer.
Can you post an image of the window with the boot time switch to see whats on and whats off using screen capture and the paint programme or use the snipping tool (see help and support from the start menu).
How to post an image in the Norton forum, link below. Please check that personal information is edited out this can be done using the paint programme see help and support from the start menu. Your image may take some time for a moderator to validate it, until then you will see a box with a triangle in it.
Conflict in security software can be the cause of various issues even if the security software has been uninstalled the debris left on the system may not have caused problems until a Norton update has been installed.
Have you or have you ever had any other security software including any trial security software on the computer including Norton? If so what is it?
Can you check in windows add/remove programmes, programme data and programme files for any security software that may have been bundled in a download?
What trial security software came with the computer?

Nothing other than Norton, has been for years, new computers - Norton Norton Norton all of them never tried anything else, don't want to!
okay, i just ran through Programs list and nothing as far as another anti virus program, I do have Norton Utilities 16 though.
Norton came with my computer
Just put it to Aggressive shut down restart and took forever to come up but did so. Aggressive was still checked off. I set it back to OFF and saved. wonder why it will save Aggressive setting but not OFF ???? weird

Hi,
Have you run any scans? With NIS and / or one of the free on demand scanners like
http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
or
I like to run one or the other of those weekly as second opinion scans after NIS gives me a clean bill of health.

Calchick74, you might want to cosider what intesec said about setting Boot Time Protection to Aggressive.
It may take a few seconds longer for your computer to boot, but you are protected from the time you switch on, as Norton loads before anything else. This setting will have no effect on your IE load times.
Hi Calchick74
It should save any selection for the boot time option?
Was the trial security software Norton and did you renew it with a purchase key, what exactly did you do?
