Internet won't connect

I have a wireless router set up to my computer, after installing Norton, the wireless internet still works, but the wired internet to my desktop isn't. I read some threads dealing with the same issue. I flushed the dns but it didn't solve the problem. I then checked if the internet would connect if I started the computer on safe mode and it connected when I did this. I don't know why it works on safe mode and not on the regular start up. I don't know where to go from here so if anyone could help, it would really be appreciated.

thanks for the welcome and as far as the firewall, I tried to reset it but the internet still won't load. On the Norton screen, I clicked my network and it said that the wired network was secure and that the connection status was online, I don't know if that helps but I thought it was interesting that it would say that but the internet won't connect

Confirm whether you tried the following steps to flush your DNS and reset the winsock:(If not, please re-do these steps)

1. Click Start > Run, type  ipconfig /flushdns and click OK.

2. Click Start > Run, type  cmd and click OK.

3. in the command prompt, type the following and press Enter after each line:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt [Enter]
netsh winsock reset
[Enter]

exit [Enter]

those are the steps I took to flush the dns. I tried to flush it again, after I did, I restarted the computer and the computer still won't connect to the internet

If you look under History> Firewall and Network, and also under Firewall activities, does anything show as blocked?

What program are you using to access the net, and is it allowed to connect?

Are you able to insert the IP address of your router to run diagnostics?

Frequently my computer advises me that it is connected, but it is referring to the connection between the computer and the router.  Often, the router has lost the connection to the ISP.

Where can I find the history on Norton 360? and I have bellsouth dsl and use windows internet explorer to open it up. Where would I insert my IP adress of the router for it to run diagnostics?

I turned on my desktop and for some reason an internet explorer windows popped up and it loaded the homepage and I tested out a few websites and it worked but when I closed it out and tried to re-open it to make sure it truly was working, it wouldn't load, and say the program was not responded. I have mozilla firefox also and I decided to try that and that works so I guess I'm just going to use mozilla firefox as the internet browser

Ipena09;

It might be wise to run a Malwarebytes scan to make sure there is not something on your system contributing to this problem.  Use the free version, download, install, update  and run a full scan.

You can adjust your router settings by typing the IP address into your web browser.

The History Logs in N360 are available in the Tasks page ( view Security History ).  Use the drop down list on the left top to select the Firewall logs.  You may also want to check Intrusion Prevention logs.

Start FireFox (or IE) and type in the IP for your router in the address bar; Bellsouth or AT&T DSL modem / router default IP is 192.168.1.254 .
