Intrusion Prevention and Browser Protection

In the Norton Security Suite - PC Security Details, it says that my browser is not protected from intrusion attempts.  It is weird because under status it says on, but it is highlighted in red with a big X.  Also my system status says "at risk".  Please help, I have run all the scans and restarted my computer, but my browser protection continutes to be at risk.

I see that these are two different features in NIS 2011.

  1. Am I correct in thinking that although Browser Protection is limited to IE and Firefox, Intrusion Prevention applies generally whatever Browser is is use?
  2. However the purpose of these features appears to be fairly similar - so what is the real difference?
  3. Also it seems odd that vulnerabilities applying to particular 3rd party software products aren't generally getting patched by their own manufacturers?

Thanks SendOfJive,

Do you know if Browser Protection for Chrome is implemented in NIS 2012?

That is weird - I can duplicate your problem (minus the ON under Status) by going to Settings > Firewall > Intrusion & Browser Protection Tab and turning OFF  Intrusion Protection.

Is there anything in the top margin of the PC Security Details page?   If you had a problem, it should be displayed there with an AT RISK, what it is, View Detail and a Fix Now on the right hand side.  Are these presents?  If so, what happens when you click Fix Now?

You may wan to try to go to the Intrustion Protection setting and ensuring it is ON - in other words, turn it Off and On again, reboot and see if it has cleared.

Please post back with your findings.

Same problem... Hit Fix Now, and it doesn't fix anything. Have updated all software, restarted, you name it...

hey,

can you post pls screenshots? it is unlikely that this happens despite turning intrusion prevention ON.

Hi

Do a reset of your internet explorer and do a restart and check.

Reset: close all IE windows -> Open Run (win key + r) -> inetcpl.cpl -> advanced ->Reset->Restart the Computer and check.
