i just downloaded IE8 as it was the latest version, but after installing that, the intrusion prevention automatically goes off when i open IE8. then i have to manually fix it and it is fixed. help pls.

I have also been having this problem.  I have Norton 360 version 2.0.  I loaded it onto my Vista computer, and everytime I boot up my computer, I get a red "x" on the Norton icon with a "fix" request.  When I click on fix, my intrusion prevention is always turned off.  So, I'm not sure the issue is tied to internet explorer, or a particular version of internet explorer, because the problem occurs even before I start Internet Explorer.  Again, whenever I turn my Vista computer on, I need to manually go in and turn Intrusion Prevention on because Norton indicates that it is turned off.

I have worked with the help desk two different times, and each time they had me uninstall Norton and then reinstall.  The third time I called the help desk, they wanted me to uninstall again and then reinstall from the Norton internet site, which by that time I was too upset and didn't want to do anymore.  All of my virus definitions are up to date.  As far as I can tell, I have all of the Microsoft updates as well.

Interestingly, I also loaded this software on an XP computer in my house, and I do not seem to have the problem on that computer.

Any help that can be provided to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated, as I do not like to have to manually turn on intrusion prevention everytime I turn on my computer.

I have IE8 Beta 1 on my laptop with XP Home so I'll try and take some time tomorrow and see if anything untoward happens with NIS2008 that I have on it.

BTW The OP implies he has N360 from this section, not NIS2008, and he is using Internet Explorer 8 which is still in Beta -- Beta 1 is the current public beta of it I believe.

Hi. Sounds like Norton has a serious issue with internet explorer 8.

I run window XP, have installed internet explorer 8, and have Norton 360 newest version. As the other users, Norton 360 send me the message according to which :"my browser is not set up to detect fraudulent web sites or to authenticate gernuine websites". This problem has occured since I installed IE8.  Even though I fix the problem manuelly - as asked-  this problem occurs again and again.

When will a patch be released?

Thank you in advance.

Best

As I understand it, IE8 is in beta only and has not been released as final. I think it is somewhat premature to expect Norton 360 v2 to be compliant with products in beta.

Correct in my opinion.

And to update my earlier message, they released IE8 public beta 1 on Thursday. Reports I've seen show many problems in logging on and so on so I'm sure Norton is waiting for them to have a reasonably stable release before issuing any fixes, if needed.

I have this same problem. It appears that the phishing filter in IE7 has been replaced with the smartscreen filter in IE8, and N360 has no knowledge of the new filter. I guess until Norton update it, you’ll keep getting it. It’s very annoying - I’d like to know how to turn this warning off in 360, if it’s possible. The smartscreen filter is up and running, I am being protected, its just that N360 can’t see it.

I have been running Vista Home Premium and Norton 360 successfully on my Sony VGN-FZ145E laptop.

I recently installed IE8 Beta 2 and now have the same problem others have with IE8 turning off Norton 360 Phishing Protection (turns off every few minutes).  I have spent much time trying to find settings in both IE8 and Norton 360 without success to resolve this issue.

I will be watching for a resolution from MS IE8 and Norton 360.

Thank you for the information. Since IE8 is still in beta, there are many changes that will take place with the product between now and its release. As such any changes to our released software to ensure compatibility with a beta product would most likely require additional changes later. Please keep an eye on these forums for future updates to Norton software after IE8 is released. Thanks!

Sorry if this is wrong forum for this

I have the same issues Intrusion Protection is "Off" by default at every first start. Clicking fix ewill make it go away until next start.

I have clean installed 360 again and run live update from the command line but still this persists.

I don't have IE8 I have IE7 and use FireFox 3 as my browser of choice.

Is this a known issue and is a fix coming for this?

Thanks

I may not have been clear in my earlier posting, but I also don’t have IE8, I have IE7.  I could never get the problem fixed, even after working with the help desk three separate times (mulitple reinstalls didn’t help).  My final solution was to return 360 and get Internet Explorer 2008.  That fixed the problem.

Hi - Just wondering if any of you who have this problem have recent games from EA installed on your machine.  I have just purchased Spore and found that my intrusion protection was then switched off whenever i loaded windows.  I assumed this was as the result of a virus and formatted my machine, reinstalled windows vista, reinstalled Norton which seemed to be working fine.  I then ran all the updates for norton and vista and all looked good.  As soon as i reinstalled Spore however the intrusion protection kept switching off.  Having researched on the web this looks as though it could be related to the copy protection used by EA which seems to swich off the intrusion protection to allow itself access to the web.  Norton helpdesk using remote access installed updates which seemed to work until i restarted the machine a second time then all reverted back.  Emailed EA for help and awaiting reply.  I have installed Norton 360 (same version) onto our laptop which also runs Vista and this is fine.  Not going to put Spore on this machine!

that is a horrible way to go about it.  you should have working beta versions to test and make sure that when norton does update, we don’t have the same issue again like with firefox 3 release.  i would think you as developers and software providers would want to make sure that when something does release, it’s ready to go, and working properly.  i can’t understand this logic from norton lately.

I'm trying to get more information about what exactly is happening...

From what you wrote, it sounds like you have Norton Internet Security 2008 or (maybe) prior installed, and when you run IE8, you get a notification that IE8 is trying to access the internet?

If I completely misunderstood, I apologize, acn you please give us more information about what product you have installed, and what error or notification you get when you run IE8

Thanks
