Invalid target drives has caused a problem again this time on my dual boot test machine when using SSR2013 installed on Win8.1.
I noticed that drive D: Win7 was missing when booting into Win8.1 and when I looked at previous recovery points each one (3 of them) were showing invalid target drives.
I corrected the the drive letter issue and then ran a full copy of the dual boot and the new recovery point was showing valid target drives and the others were still invalid.
I then recovered with a reliable third party backup software to a couple of months ago and realised that the backup was showing drive D: was missing when booted into Win8.1.
Checking the new recovery point produced with SSR 2013 I could then see it too was now invalid.
In the past I was blaming SSR 2013 but now I am not so sure, the problem could be with Win8.1.In all cases when booting into Win7 all drives were showing correctly.
I have since corrected the problem with the drive letters again ( C; = Win8.1 and D: = Win7) and backed up with SSR 2013 and the recovery point was showing as valid again.
I will continue to monitor the issue with the drive letter dissapearing and making the recovery point invalid over the next few weeks and report back.
