IP address disappearing from Realtek adapter

Hi all recently bought Norton 360 which installed on a windows 7 64bit pc and I have noticed a message coming up regarding my Realtek adapter and my IP address saying that it has disappeared and is no longer being protected. It is a Realtek PCIe network adapter and I have been on to the Realtek website to download and install the latest drivers but still the problem persists. Has anyone else come across this problem and has a solution for a fix, could it be down to a faulty adapter? Surely if this was the case I would not be able to connect to the internet. My ISP is virgin media cable 50mbs and it is done through a dynamic IP address

Is it the 169.xxx and so on IP?

If it is - don't worry:

You don't have to worry about this, it's just a status message for the network adapter you use.

Thanks,

Hi richlust,

It is the network that has disappeared and is no longer being protected, not the adapter.  In other words, there is no longer a connection there for the firewall to montor and protect.  Once the connection is reestablished, Norton will inform you that it is protecting your connection to a newly discovered network.  It is just Norton logging when you are connected to a network and when you are not - it is all normal.

Thanks everyone, thought i would be better safe than sorry but reading all the links posted it all becomes clear so thanks all

Hey, that's part of what we're here for. When it's this easy to get a bunch of free expert consults (essentially crowdsource your question to a reputable crowd LOL), it is indeed better safe than sorry!
