'IP address has disappeared'

I haven't been able to access a certain website (facebook) for the past few days, I am just getting a 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' message, whereas I have had no problem accessing any and every other website from the same laptop.

I checked in the 'security history' of my Norton Internet Security, and found that around the same time as I started experiencing problems with accessing the website I had an info message (in the 'firewall - network and connections' category) saying,

'IP address has disappeared from adapter Intel(R) wireless WiFi link 4965AGN and is no longer being protected'

Is it likely that the two problems are linked? How would I be able to make the IP address re-appear?

Many thanks

Hi MKateM,

The two events are probably not related (unless you lost connectivity to all sites).  The firewall entry is noting that you are no longer using a wifi connection that had been in place - this would not cause a problem that would affect only one site, and is most likely a normal dropping of a network that was not in use.  To troubleshoot your Facebook issue, see the following Microsoft article:

Error "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when viewing a website in Internet Explorer

This is a standard shutdown message, and has nothing to do with your problem.  You should see this message  every time your system shuts down.

On boot-up, you should see the complementary message "Protecting your connection to a newly detected network on adapter \"Intel(R)..."

SendOfJive, Many, many thanks for your reply, and for sending me in the direction of the Microsoft article. Following advice there, I deleted my browser/cookies history and the problem was solved. I'm so clueless when it comes to things like this, so your support and advice is so gratefully received.

Hi MKateM,

You're welcome.  I'm glad the article was helpful and that your issue wasn't too complicated.

Hi,

You may have some router or ISP connection problems, that's why you are getting the yellow exclamation mark in the Networking icon.

Also, if after some time the connection comes back check also your network adapters, drivers or configuration to make sure thar everything is workning as expected.

Same thing for your home router and give a call to your ISP to check the quality of your link.

Regards,

I see these messages and my internet connections are gone

IP address has disappered from Adapter Teredo Tunnelling Pseudo Interface....bla...bla bla....

and I get connection lost.

Now at the same time,  I have my phone connected to the router.  I cheked instantly to my phone,  all looks good - which is thru wireless.  I use android Note 2 phone

what needs to be done,  OR how to resolve this.....its been happening since I reported last time

Pls help

Hi uregmi,

Could be an ISP issue or a local network issue.  Are you losing connectivity only on wired or wireless devices, or both?  You can ignore the Norton History logs - they are just reporting that the connection was lost, so the firewall is no longer monitoring it.  The log entries are a result of your connectivity issues, and not a cause of them.

I use LAN connections.  Wireless is fine

why Norton is not reporting when there is no internet connection  ????

Sometimes Windows drivers can get corrupted. Try going into Device Manager and removing the Lan Network devices. Reboot the computer and allow Windows to reinstall the Network devices.

So wireless never loses connectivity, even when your wired network goes offline?  Have you checked your cables and connections?

It really isn't necessary for Norton to alert to internet connectivity drop-outs, as they are usually immediately apparent to the user.  Norton simply logs that it can't see a connection, either.
