Soliciting a donation is not a demand for ransom any more than asking friends or coworkers to contribute to a group fund would be considered robbery.  No one is forcing you to use Firefox, no one is demanding that you pay to use it, and nothing bad will happen to you or your computer if choose not to support Mozilla financially.  Kinda nothing at all like ransomware.
