After the pcAnywhere source code hacking, I installed TeamViewer 7.0.12541 on 4 PCs. Three of the PCs have NIS 2012 19.5.0.145 installed and one (the oldest) has NAV 2012 19.5.0.145 installed. The Windows Firewall is enabled and there is no other security/a-v/anti-malware/anti-spyware/etc. programs installed. TV basically works on all of them, but I am having a minor problem with TV on the oldest one. I contacted TV tech support and they suggested uninstalling NAV 2012 to see if it makes any difference. I hate that kind of answer from any software tech support group.
I am remote from this PC (it belongs to my 88 year-old in-laws) and while I know the proper way to uninstall NAV I am very reluctant to uninstall NAV remotely. Plus, I still have the old version of pcAnywhere installed and I know that running the NRT will also uninstall pcAnywhere which I don't want to do. I am in contact with Symantec about getting the latest version of pcAnywhere, but that is ongoing via emails.
The problem I am seeing on this old PC is that when I start a remote session with it, a TV program named TeamViewer_Desktop.exe starts, but is showing a high amount of CPU usage in Task Manager - at times, over 60%. This really slows down my ability to work on the PC. This program ends when the remote session is over, so there is no CPU impact for local usage once I disconnect my remote session.
By comparison, remote connections to the other PCs only show this same program using 2% of the CPU and these PCs are running NIS 2012, not NAV 2012. Two have P4 CPUs (3.2GHz & 3.0GHz), 2GB RAM running WinXP SP3 & NIS 2012. The third is a fairly new laptop with an i7 dual core CPU, 8GB RAM, Win7 x64 SP1 & NIS 2012.
I have tried disabling Antivirus Auto-Protect and turning off LiveUpdate with no change in CPU usage of this program. I have added the entire TV program folder C:\Program Files\TeamViewer to the Real Time Exclusions list, with no change in CPU usage.
Here are the details of the PC in question:
- AMD Sempron 2800+ 2.0GHz
- 2GB RAM
- WinXP Home SP3 current with all MS critical updates
- NAV 2012 19.5.0.145
- TeamViewer 7.0.12541
My questions are these: Is anyone else using TV with a Norton product? If so, how old is the machine and are you seeing high CPU usage of this program when connect in a remote session?
Personally, I don't think NAV has anything to do with the problem and uninstalling it would not resolve the issue. I think it may just be a by-product of the age of the PC hardware, but that is just my opinion with no facts to back it up.
Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be welcomed.
