Is Norton Ghost 15 compatible with Win7 home (64-bit)?

After installing Norton Ghost 15 and Lightout into notebook, I don't see any Window boot menu for Norton Ghost at all.

I backup C: drive with no problem, but when I restore this image within Win7, then it will not load Norton Ghost at all during PC restart.

Does anyone have any suggestions on whether Norton Ghost 15 is compatible with Win7 home (64-bit) or not?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Actually, it might be easier just to use Easy BCD to add the Ghost 15's boot.wim file to the boot menu. You do not have to pay or register to download for personal use.

Ghost 15 works fine for me in Wondows 7 64-bit.

Are you saying you are trying to restore the image containing the OS from within Windows?

My notebook's HDD contains 3 primary partition and 1 extended partition, which contain

Sys has the following partitions;

1) Good, Used for recovery partition (No drive letter, about 1.46 gB), which is (Primary)

2) Windows (C: 100gB), which is (Primary)

3) Windows (D: 350gB), which is (Extended)

4) PC Makers recovery drive, which is (Primary)

After installing Norton Ghost 15 and Lightout into C: drive, there is no window boot menu on screen during the next startup and the track pad does not work at all, will the recovery drive affect installation of Norton Ghost 15? This recovery tools also use Window XX as a startup system just like what Norton Ghost does.

Do you have any suggestions?

Type MSCONFIG in the run/searchbox. Open MSCONFIG and click the BOOT tab. Is LOR shown there?

After restoring factory setting, and installing Norton Ghost 15 again. The mouse pad can be used, and create an image for backup under D: partition. At this moment, under Boot, I can only see VProTray.exe.

After that, I install Lightout restore with Win7, and test it at the first time, but I see no window boot menu for LOR during reboot.

Under BOOT tab within MSCONFIG, there is no LOR at all, I can only see VProTray.exe, which related to Norton Ghost, so I assume installation for LOR is failed.

Do you have any suggestions on what wrong it is during the installation process?

Thanks you very much for any suggestions

If you see VProTray.exe your looking under the "Startup" tab, click the tab on top "BOOT".

Dave

Edit- sorry I may have misread your post and you were looking under the boot tab

If it's any help, I didn't bother with Lights out Restore, I took Red's suggestion and added the .wim file into the boot menu with EasyBCD.

The advantage of doing that is you end up with the full version of the recovery disk.

I first made a custom recovery disk so I could add the serial number into it so I could use it to make cold images without having to enter my key.

Then either in the custom CD or the ISO, go into the "Sources" folder and extract or copy "Boot.wim" onto the C drive.

Then I renamed it Ghost.wim so I knew what it was.

Then I followed these instructions here:

http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-add-startup-repair-option-to-windows-7-boot-menu/

Under Step 4, I used C:\Ghost.wim as the path and For "Name" put what you want to show up on the boot menu.

Use Lights out Restore, or Ghost Recovery.

That works fine for me and since it loads the wim file into RAM, I have no problems imaging or restoring the C drive that contains the wim file.

If I can work out how to install LOR, then it will be great, since I get experience with this interface.  For EasyBCD, my notebook already have feature to restore into factory setting, and I need to perform regular restore and backup all the time, If the approach using EasyBCD is simply restore Win7 in default setting (full version of the recovery disk), then my notebook already gets one.

By the way, I would like to know what wrong the installation for LOR is about, if this problem solves, many problem solves.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks everyone very much for any suggestions

I would like to know whether following partitions setting is causing any problem or not.

C: (Primary partition), create image for this drive using Norton Ghost

D: (Logical partition), save image file in this drive for restore.

Are you running with Administrator privileges when you set up LOR?

Yes, there is only one user on notebook, which has administrator privileges.

Do you have any suggestions on what items I need to check for this error on installation?

I think there is missing driver for HM77 controller to access HDD, so it fails to install Lightout.

Does anyone agree with that? and have any experience to solve this.

Norton Ghost 15

When I bootup the notebook using Norton Ghost 15 disk for backup and restore process, HDD within notebook cannot be detected and located, I have discussed this issues with tech supports between Toshiba and Norton, which the issue could be missing the driver for this controller as described on below link for HM77.

From Norton's advice, if a driver for this controller is given, and integrating this driver with Lightout restore to generate ISO file, which could able to bootup notebook and locate HDD for backup and restore process.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find driver for this controller?

Thanks everyone very much for any suggestions

STOR_Win7_8_11.7.0.1013_PV.exe

I would try STOR_Win7_8_11.7.0.1013_f6flpy-x86.zip

Use WinZip or 7 Zip to extract the files from the archive. Find a folder named "f6flpy-x86". You can add the drivers when Ghost asks for them by browsing to the inf files.

Could you please give me any suggestions on when Ghost asks for driver? Do I need to uninstall and re-install Ghost? as it requests for drivers.

There are 2 inf files

  • iaAHCIC.inf
  • iaStorAC.inf

Do you have any suggestions on whether I need to install both or not?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions
