I have been using the basic Norton Family for approx 6 months and in recent weeks there has been a problem with Tampmon.exe
A couple of examples being....
If I am running a game in full screen mode (eg, Age of Empires + other games), every 5 minutes the game will minimize to the Windows task bar. Somtimes it actually freezes the computer and requires a hard reboot.
If I am not running any applications, every 5 minutes "Interactive Services detection" shows in task bar (very briefly)
Again, without any apps running, if I click on the windows clock (lower right of task bar), within 5 minutes the clock disappears and again I get "Interactive Services detection"
If I then check the Windows Application event viewer, I see entries for Interactive Services detection every 5 minutes.....
If I uninstall Norton Family I dont get the above problems and there are no new entries in the Event Log.
When I reinstall Norton Family the problem starts again.
I have spent a couple of hours remote sharing my PC with Norton Support during which time we went through the install & uninstall process several times. The support rep suggested that I contact the software publisher for Age of Empires, but I see no point in doing so because it is not application specific. Rep also suggested that I contact Microsoft, but I dont see much point in doing so, because it is Norton Family (in particular Tampmon.exe) that is causing the problem.
I am running Windows 7 Professional.
As mentioned earlier this problem has only started in past 2 or 3 weeks and I have been using Norton Family for approx 6 months.
The problem is not related to specific games - it is the fact that Tampmon.exe was briefly taking focus away from the active window, or in the case of playing games in full screen mode, would minimize the game.
Anyway, after spending 3 or 4 hours with online support assistance, it was determined that disabling the "Interactive Services detection" service resolved the problem. The only thing is that I don't know why the problem started (in past couple of weeks) when I have been using Norton Family for 6 months.
Also, the problem was not restricted to my son playing games - it was affecting all users including myself and I am not configured as a restricted user.

Thanks for the information. Awhile ago, we have an issue with gaming, which was related to Java version. The issue was resolved then. Can you please let us know the java version you have on the PC so we can check to see if they are related?
