I received a product update today that required a system restart on my 32-bit Vista machine that seems to have caused some glitches on my system. For example, the Norton icon in my system tray showed my Norton protection was active after the system restart but there was no pop-up menu when I right-clicked the icon. I was also unable to open the Norton GUI from my desktop icon or Windows Start menu, and I could not log into my ISP's webmail application from my default browser Firefox v49.0 (the login worked fine from IE9). These problems persisted after multiple re-boots.
I ran the Norton Removal and Reinstall (NRnR) tool to reinstall NIS v21.7.1.32 and ran a few LiveUpdates until it reported that no further updates were available, and that solved most of the problems. However, my preliminary testing shows that my CPU consumption increases dramatically when I open Firefox v49.0 if the Norton Identity Safe extension is enabled.
Does anyone know what product update was delivered by today's Automatic Live Update? It looks like the Norton Identity Safe extension in Firefox was updated from v2016.7.0.62 to v2016.7.1.9 after this morning's patch was installed, but I'm not certain about that.
