Issues with Norton 360 VPN on iOS 17.5.1

I’m writing to share my experiences and concerns with the Norton 360 suite on my iPhone 14 Pro Max running iOS 17.5.1. While I’ve been quite satisfied with the suite overall, I recently encountered several inconsistencies related to VPN functionality during my international travel. Here are the details:

  1. VPN Status on Unsecured Wi-Fi:

• Despite enabling the VPN and observing a new IP address in the Privacy section, the ‘Wi-Fi Security’ under ‘Security’ continued to prompt me to turn on the VPN while connected to unsecured Wi-Fi. This issue persisted even after attempting to reconnect the VPN. The behavior was inconsistent, as on some days, the Wi-Fi security indicator turned green after connecting to the VPN. I am uncertain about the cause of this inconsistency and request a thorough investigation.

  1. Notifications While Connected to VPN:

• While connected to the Norton VPN, I received notifications indicating that I was on unsecured Wi-Fi and needed to turn on the VPN. This contradictory behavior was confusing and raised doubts about the effectiveness of the protection. It would be more reassuring to receive a notification confirming that my connection is secure.

  1. VPN Persistence on Network Change:

• When switching from unsecured Wi-Fi to a 4G/5G network, the VPN did not automatically turn off. Instead, Norton kept attempting to reconnect to the VPN, which disrupted my 5G internet connection. Manually shutting down the VPN was also unsuccessful, as Norton continued trying to reconnect. The only solution was to reconnect to the unsecured Wi-Fi, disable the VPN, and then turn off the phone’s Wi-Fi to restore my 5G connection.

I have already posted the issue described in point 3 on the Apple Store and received a response from David suggesting I connect with support through the community forum. However, I am disappointed with this support experience, as it required me to repeat my entire concern rather than having Norton follow up directly.

I hope these issues can be resolved promptly, as they are critical to the security and usability of your product. If not addressed, I will consider unsubscribing and switching to a competitor’s product.

Before we go any further, iOS is now at ver 17.6.1. Please update your device and test to see if you are still seeing the same issues.

I updated the iOS version to 17.6.1; but as I’m not traveling anymore outside the country and on secured home wifi network, I can’t find out if the vpn is working properly or not. More so, Noton vpn doesn’t work in India, unfortunately.

Do you acknowledge the issues which I mentioned with Norton 360 VPN Privacy and that they were fixed in the iOS’s new release?

A banner across the top of the India Norton VPN page says…"Norton VPN is not available for use within India as a result of governmental regulations requiring the logging and saving of user data, but you can still use your Norton VPN when traveling outside of India.

I have no knowledge or experience with the issue you saw, and have seen no other reports of the issues. I am not a Norton employee, I am just a user like you. So I have no access to what May have already been reported to Norton.

If you are able to reproduce the issues, I can get instructions to send logs to Norton to help with the diagnosis.

I had what seems to be a similar issue when I traveled recently, but my trip was not international. While at the airport, the VPN would tell me I was not secure and then I would attempt to turn the VPN off so that I can have Internet access and it would manually toggle itself back on. It wasn’t until I got home and the same thing was happening, as far as it turning itself back on, even when I would toggle it off, I realized that my iPhone was mimicking my iPad. Once I realized this and turned the VPN off on the iPad, then would stay toggled off on my iPhone. I also can’t re-create this because I am not on an airplane.

Thanks Peter. Unfortunately, I have no means to test the Norton 360 ios app while I’m in my country since VPN doesnt work here and I’m not travelling soon. However, the issues are still open and I had a bad experience while I was travelling a month ago.

Someone from Noton technical team must look into the issue. Is there anyway you have their attention on the listed issues?

Thank you Kathie. Atleast I have someone supporting the issues and not just me.

I will escalate this thread to have the forum Admin forward your concerns to the appropriate team.

Thanks Peter!

I have exactly the same issue. I am convinced that this is clearly a system bug that needs to be fixed in future releases of the app.
