Items deleted in security history

After installing Norton360 (the previous version I had was NIS 2012, I noticed that all of the entries in the quarantine section of my security logs were gone. After looking around some more, I also noticed that all of the log entries that were there before installing Norton360 were removed.

Does Norton360 automatically remove the items in the quarantine that were collected previously after installation, or is it just the log entries that are removed?

And if they were actually removed from the quarantine, does this mean they were completely removed from my computer, as in gone, banished forever never to return again? Or were they just restored from the quarantine back onto my computer?

Hi new_ton,

During the installation of Norton 360, the old NIS 2012 program is uninstalled (you cannot have both installed at the same time).  Quarantine entries are compressed, inert, copies of threats that have been removed from your computer.  These entries are retained in case the removal of a threat causes unintended system problems that require the threat to be restored.  Old entries in Quarantine can be deleted, since they are probably no longer needed for restoration purposes.  It sounds like the uninstallation of NIS 2012 included the removal of items in Quarantine, which means that the threats are now totally removed from your PC and cannot be restored.  In cases where you might need to keep copies of the items in Quarantine, you can export the contents for safe keeping prior to uninstalling Norton, and then import them into the newly installed program.
