Just installed Norton 360 Deluxe with VPN and it almost fried my MacBook Pro

So, after months of reading up on internet security suites I decided to go for the Norton 360 Deluxe solution. I mainly use MacBook Pro mid 2013 with an i7 processor and 16 GB of ram (but have other computers as well) and installed it on my MacBook Pro first. Less than 30 minutes into using Norton 360 Deluxe for my first time ever, I heard that the fans on my Mac were running on full speed (they've never done that before). I also smelled a slightly burned scent in my living room. I immediately opened the Activity Monitor and saw that Norton VPN "stopped responding" - WITH A CPU LOAD OF 475% !!!!!!!! I immediately hit the power off button and turned my MacBook Pro off to let it cool down. It keept smelling burned. But still works today (this happened yesterday). What the actual crap happened here? I'm running a week old fresh clean install of macOS Mojave with all the latest updates installed and I was ONLY running Norton 360 Deluxe with VPN activated when this happened last night. I am now afraid of using Norton 360 Deluxe with VPN. Almost 500% CPU usage is INSANE. I have never experienced anything like this before in my 35+ year long computer career. And I am considering cancelling my subscription to get a refund already. I've read in several reviews that its one of the best suites, but the same reviews also state that its taxing the system more than the other suites. Does anyone have any idea what happened to my Norton 360 Deluxe with VPN last night?
