K-lite Codec Packs...How reliable are they to download and install?

I was just wondering.  I experimented recently with downloading, but not installing, K-lite Codec Pack from the cnet.com website as it was a free download.  My browser warned me that the software came from an unknown publisher.  Therefore, I did not install it.  My question is...how reliable is the k-lite codec pack to download and install on a Windows computer, and can you get it from a reliable/reputible website, or, even, a computer store?

Here is that thread:

K-Lite Codec Pack is trustworthy. I recommend Shark007's codecs over K-Lite Codec Pack.
