About 10 days ago I had an obvious security breach. I changed my passwords and secret questions/answers to ones impossible to guess. I ran my Norton several times and it picked up nothing unusual. I am still having some strange things happen and it looks like someone is still signing into my Yahoo accounts. I am wondering if anyone has advice on how I can find out if a keylogger has been remotely installed on my computer. I have heard I can check my hard drive for logs but can’t figure out how to do it. Any other tips and instructions on ways to hunt down Keyloggers would be greatly appreciated.

04. Did you Update the Virus Definitions before doing the Scan? Was it a Quick Scan or Full System Scan? Were you dis-connected from the Internet when doing the Scan(s)? Have you Scanned in Safe Mode?
Hi There,
1. I am assuming it may be a keylogger as I have changed my passwords and someone is still appearing to access my accounts.

I do know that someone acessed my accounts 10 days ago because they left a foolish trail. I even know who it is. The person helping them is a computer science student on a scholarship so he may be using some tricky tricks. I am totally new to this sort of problem so please excuse any hopelessness on my part!
I should mention that both my Facebook and Yahoo Messenger were hacked 10 days ago and someone appears to have accessed my Yahoo since. I really can’t tell if anything else has been accessed

What are you running for a firewall?
What version of Norton Antivirus are you using at the moment. Look under the main screen, help & Support, about> there will be a number there 16.xx.xx.xxx
Please download and install Malwarebytes and run a full scan to see what malware a different scanner will pick up.Please post the log

How do I find the MBAM log?
I figured out what MBAM is I just reinstalled it and am running the scan again. I will post the results when it finishes.
Open the MBAM program, click on the tab that says logs. Choose the last log that you ran, open, copy and paste.

MBAm looks good. How long ago did you download the Nlite program? Have you had any noticeable problems or conflicts since you installed it?
I don’t recall installing Nlite. Could it have come with the computer when I bought it? Am I able to tell when it was installed?
Go into "My Commputer">C drive>Windows>system32. Under view at the top click arrange icons by "Modified" and arrange in groups.
This should get all of the system32 files arranged by date, so you can look at the group about 10 days to 2 weeks ago. Let us know what shows.

Hi! I just read throught the thread and your logs. Please follow delphinium and Quad's advise on removing the infection in your system. Once your system is clean you need to correct the installation of NAV2009 as there are pieces of the previous versions in your system. You can follow the directions below to do the installation but please do not do this until the malware is off your system. Also, one note about the current NAV2009; this does not have a port scanner / firewall component like the NAV2008 or earlier versions. Something to keep in mind; you will need a firewall to help protect your system.
To redo the NAV2009 installation:
1) Copy your Norton key for safe keeping just in case you need it. You should not need this but it is better to have the key on hand than to need it and not have ready access to the key. You can find a copy of your currently installed key in My Documents\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus_Key.txt. You can also store the key online at www.mynortonaccount.com . This should also be available from the main screen on NAV2009.
2) Download the Norton Removal Tool from this link. Norton Removal Tool Choose the 2009 product link and the Norton Removal Tool (NRT) to your desktop. Directions are on the link page.
3) Download the latest version of NAV2009 from this link. Reinstall After Removal Choose the 'I have Norton Antivirus 2006 or later' link on this page. On the next page you can download the latest NAV2009 installation software.
4) Disconnect from the Internet until your system needs the connection later in the process.
5) Go to START > Norton AntiVirus > Uninstall and let NAV2009 uninstall itself. It will want to reboot the machine. Let it.
6) During the booting of your system, go to Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu is shown. Choose the Safe Mode option (no network or command prompt).
7) In Safe Mode, run the NRT tool. When the tool is finished, click on the Reboot to restart your system.
8) Let Windows boot into normal mode now.
9) Install NAV2009 by double clicking the file you downloaded and saved to your desktop in step 3.
10) When the installation asks for your key or says activating your product, reconnect to the internet then (plug your cable in or turn on the wireless card). [Note: The installation may not ask for your key and activate by using the previous key on the system. Your system will still need to connect to the internet at this point so updated definitions can be downloaded.]
11) Run the Live Update process manually until Live Update reports that there are no more updates to download, NAV2009 is fully up to date.
12) Reboot your system now to insure that any components updated during step 11 are loaded properly.
13) See if your error is fixed now.
Report back here with how this works for you after the malware has been removed.
- You should always do Anti-Virus Scans dis-connected from the Internet because most Threats have Anti-Detection and Anti-Removal Techniques.
- I would suggest checking out the "Norton AntiVirus 2009: No Firewall" Thread (below).
- I would then suggest Updating Norton and Malwarebytes' and re-starting in to Safe Mode and doing a Full System Scan - of all Drivers - with both Products.
