Lack of Internet Connectivity

I have an HP laptop with Windows 8 and installed Norton onto it.  It was working fine until a couple weeks ago and now I cannot connect to the internet.  I can connect to my wifi just fine, but nothing else.  I have read some security products do not work well with Windows 8 and am wondering if there is any issues with Norton products.  If there is; is there an update to fix the issue?  Can it be downloaded to a flash drive and installed that way?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I have a Dell Optiplex 760 Desktop computer.

I have an cable Internet connection.

I use Norton 360.

I use MS Windows Vista as my operating system.

My problem is that I cannot connect to the Internet.   I receive an error message saying the computer cannot find a conenction.   All the other programs work fine and I was able to run a comprehensive scan with Norton 360 and nothing came up as a problem, not even a cookie.  I unplugged the modem and left it off for a minute, reconnected and I was still unable to connect to the Internet.  Windows searched for a problem and solution, but came up with nothing.  Any suggestions?  Do I go into the Control Panel to find the modem, and if so, then what?  As you may have surmised, I'm not the most computer savvy, so any help is appreciated.

First try switching your router/modem off and on again.

Click on settings at top of Norton window, click firewall, is network Traffic set to Allow.

If all else fails :-

Start  --  Right click Control Panel  --  System  --  Device manager,  or Hardware then device manager

Double click Modems or  Network Adapters, to find your device.

Right click your device and click Properties.

Does it say your device is working correctly ?

If not, you can click Driver at the top, and then select 'Update Driver'.

Thank you.

I'm currently on a different computer, but will try your solutions this evening.  This is the  type of assistance and problem solving I was seeking.

I have a similar problem. I posted about it here:

I'll subscribe to your thread to see if you find a solution, because I never did and I still don't have wireless connectivity.

Good luck.

If you still require assistance, you need to go back to your own thread and continue there.  This user does not have the same problem, and probably not the same equipment or ISP.

We have not heard back from you on that thread since the 16'th of December.

I downloaded a copy of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.44 to a disc and will upload it onto my computer tonight.  I will run a scan to see if there is something that Norton 360 was unable to pick-up.  I'll post results tomorrow.  Hopefully, things will be cleared up, or people can offer additional suggestions.  All help is and will be appreciated.
