This weekend my XP SP3 system would freeze upon a right-click on any file. Explorer would hang, and have to be shut down manually, then restarted. The first right-click after boot triggers the problem, and then it happens again periodically, on a right-click on any file or folder.
I traced the problem, five hours later, to the NAV scan context menu handler, which must be corrupt or malformed. Using NIRSOFT ShellEx View, I got the attached report. The context manu handler can be disabled ONLY after first stopping NAV's tamper-protection, or the key is re-enabled after boot. I filed an e-mail report.
Here's the culprit:
C:\Program Files\Norton AntiVirus\Engine\17.7.0.12\NavShExt.dll {FAD61B3D-699D-49B2-BE16-7F82CB4C59CA}
