I've been asked to consult on a corrupted file / location ( directory\system volume information\lightening cfd ), which has prompted the end-user to run chkdisk utility.
I've looked into this deficiency through this forum and found some resolutions. However, I noticed that the recommended solution also recommended using another application should their solution fail to remedy the problem. This bakes the question, "Why is Norton recommending uninstalling its own application and sending customers elsewhere?"
Granted, I have not yet consulted with the client, and determined the extent and validity of the error. However, careful preparation for this ticket has shown me that Symantec's product was the root cause, and in lies an installation error, nonetheless.
For the mean time, I would like to get more information regarding practical remedies, insofar as corrective processes for re-installation of Norton, and the associated removal of incurred deficiency.
As a side note, while studying this error, one other client removed Norton and installed another reputable product, that showed a considerable amount of malware, that Norton had not addressed, let alone, detected. Again, there may be end-user ignorance on how to manage the product.
