LightningSand.CFD. file is corrupt

Hi,

I have been getting this message: F:\SystemVolumeInformation\LightningSand.CFD. is corupt and unreadable. Please run Chdsk utility.

I have run Chkdsk and it doesn't fix it. I see posts from 2010 and one from 2011 but there doesn't seem to be a clear solution.

I upgraded my Norton 360 to the newest version but the problem is still there. I'm running Windows XP. Have been using Norton for 6 years. Only new install I've done was a Seagate external drive (for backups) about a month before I started getting this message.

If there is no solution to this problem can I trust my backups are going to be recoverable when I need them? I'm willing to live with it if my backups are good!

Thanks.

Welcome,
Have you run any scans? You might try the free scanner from Malwarebytes

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

It's Norton compatible and makes a good second opinion scan.

Keep us posted

Hi Dick,

Thanks for the reply. I've researched this a bit and wesleyj from Symantec admitted it was a Norton problem over a year ago but had no solution. I am looking for a Symantec employee to say that my back ups are good or provide a solution. If not I'll have to explore other options for internet security and backing up.

Funny that this has been an issue for over 2 years and the only real solution seems to be to remove Norton and install another product.

Regards,

Jim
