Live Update error, "automatically updating" but isn't

I renewed my Internet Security for Mac sub yesterday. I'm on OS10.6.8 and have IS for Mac 4.

I input the product code and the expiration date updated with no problem.

But when I try to run LIve Update (from Quick Menu, which is what I've always used), I get the following message:

Live Update error

LiveUpdate is automatically updating your Symantec products. Wait until this process completes before using LiveUpdate again.

Except that it isn't updating anything. When I open Norton AntiVirus, I can see that the last update was on Monday, 8/26, the day before I renewed the sub.

And I've waited; no matter when I try, I now get the same error message.

I've seen this error message before, but previously I'd just wait a few minutes and then I could run Update Virus Definitions and Update Everything Now from Quick Menu with no problem. (Whatever was going on when I got the error message, it wasn't updating; I'd run Update Virus Definitions and there'd be multiMGs of download.)

But since I renewed the sub, LIve Update just doesn't work.

How do I get LIve Update to work???

Hi CindyS,

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums!!

I know you must have tried this before but just to confirm, did you restart your Mac and tried running LiveUpdate from the Norton QuickMenu?

If you have already tried and are still facing issues, please try the steps below to repair the disk permissions on your Mac:

  1. In the Finder, on the menu bar, click Go and from the drop-down select Utilities.
  2. Once the Utilities folder opens, double-click Disk Utility.
  3. The Disk Utility window should look similar to the picture below. Select the name of the hard drive (e.g.. Macintosh HD) on the left side of the window and click the First Aid tab if it is not already selected.screenshot of the disk utility
  4. Click Repair Disk Permissions button.
  5. Wait until the disk permissions are being repaired, and then restart your Mac.
  6. Run LiveUpdate from the Norton QuickMenu.

Please let us know if the issue still persists after performing the above steps or even if it is resolved.

Thanks,

Lucky

Thank you! That worked, and LiveUpdate is happily (to be anthropomorphic) updating away.
