Live update fails to complete

Every day, at least once a day for the past week, I am prompted to verify my subscription, which has over 200 days left. Today, I am prompted to "fix" my antivirus definitions through live updates. This action fails: Because subscription is expired.?

Sorry for delay in response - I sent this two days ago but kept getting  'undeliverable' - my fault.

Thank you.

I've deleted nearly all the old backup and started again with new.

I think that the Norton guide could be a little more intuitive, or maybe it's just that I'm not too conversant with IT logic. I need more 'idiot-proof' guidelines.

Anyway, all seem to be ok now, both with Backup and Live Update.

Thanks again, Norton Community.

p.s. Desktop Icon still moves on every re-start.

When you reinstall 360, the backup gets reset and disconnected from the cloud storage. You can still do a restore with your new installation. In the Backup Section of 360 choose to Restore. Then in the from tab choose the online backup and restore any files you have there. Then you log into your Norton Account and click on the Cloud Backup pillar and then on View Backup Sets. Then find any backup sets you can remove and click on the trash can beside it. That will free up the space for your new backup set.

Thanks. I followed your guide - Turned off Fast Startup, then www.norton.com/nrnr. Then chose Remove only. (Previously i had chose what seemed logical  - Remove +reinstall).  this followed by download a fresh copy of 360. Now have Live Update seeming to work ok so far, although the desktop icon relocates on each restart I can live with that, just. Thanks again.

BUT I seem to have lost my Cloud Backup. Previously I had 60 used of 75GB. I've tried to Recover, but told nothing there. When I try new backup I get only 14.3 GB available with attemping backup size of 18.8GB. If so why can I not recover? Have I lost it or not? What am I doing wrong this time please?

@Cynisceptical  You are welcome. Glad my information was useful.

@Dagwood  I hope this resolves your issue as well. There may be a couple of other posts I have seen here about LiveUpdate being slow, but it does not seem to be affecting that many users. I have not had the issues on my systems. So there is not much Norton can do to notify users when the issue is seen by a relatively small number of users.

I hope its successful for you

Thanks. I've just read your message and will try as per peterweb. But if this is such a common and known problem then why has Norton though sufficiently of its customers to put up a notice/ warning/ solution, to save aggravation to folks who are paying good money (for what is a fairly good product)  but relying on Forum to provide help?

peterweb had the solution in his post of Nov 30

To make a long story short, I contacted support and they did exactly what peterweb said (before I read his post) and Live update works again.

When I resinstalled the first time, I didn't uninstall first and I didn't use Nrnr, which I didn't know about. I had to run Live update several time too.

thanks peterweb

I don't think this is fast-start as as been detailed here .It seems automatic DNS doesn't work anymore in Windows 10 and server addresses need to be specified as google ones 8.8.8.8 or others on net and youtube As for updates it is my opinion or knowledge Norton has not updated some of my devices in 128 days I recently installed one and noticed only 12 updates 83 mg thereabouts and that was it! It now does what you are observig says there is two updates then says they was not required . https://community.norton.com/en/forums/symantec-tap-adapter-missing-network-connections

Maybe, you're seeing Kate - ChatBot - virtual assistant.
Type any response.  Type for example: "Live Agent".
Kate after a few tries will offer to transfer you to an agent.

Please - what is your geo-location.  I'll try to lookup phone number....if you want.

I've been having problems with ultra slow speed entry to Norton 360 ever since update on Nov.12th  UPgraded tp Premier. My habit is to run LiveUpdate before I go onto any website, or access my emails. Now I often give up, Yesterday took 4minute 30 seconds just to get to Protection Updates then a further 3m.20s for Product Updates. Last week I did a uninstaall/reinstall using the correct www.norton.com/nrnr but still no improvement. I tried to contact he;pline and nearly an hour in queue with my position in queue going up and down like a yo-yo. Ive been happy qwith norton for seven years until recently, now thinking of cancelling and trying alternative. Norton really does not offer a Customer Service - only a computer that does not understand my question. NOrton seems to rely on Community to answer instead of providing for its customers. I'm getting slow access to all sections , Vault VPN etc. and annoying desktop icon relocates on every restart. How to get access to  a Norton Custiomer Service with a HUMAN?

When you uninstalled, did you use the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool  from   www.norton.com/nrnr ? If not, download and run that using the Advanced Options > Remove Only.  Then, after restarting your computer, log into your Norton Account and click on Download to install a fresh copy of your 360 on your system. Then, be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available? Then restart again. Restarting, not shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled.   If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

Peter, thanks for the reply

I did a restart, had same problem.

I disabled fast startup.  Problem remains.

I would appreciate any other suggestions.

My subscription and live update works fine on another W10 laptop in the household.  This suggests it is something about my laptop. I loaded microsoft teams since the 19th.  I have since uninstalled it. I still have the same problem.

Have you restarted your computer? Restart, not shutdown and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled.  If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

My subscription to NORTON 360 has 360 days left.  I have tried restarting computer as suggested but keep getting LiveUpdate failed.  I have tried using AutoFix but that does not solve issue either.  Is only option to uninstall and reinstall?  What other options/solutions will resolve not updating definitions?
