I’m using NextDNS custom DNS on my ethernet settings, This may play a role, but it shouldn’t.
web says
“NextDNS is a separate, independent service that acts as a DNS resolver with advanced filtering capabilities, allowing you to block malicious websites, ads, and trackers, while Norton 360 is a comprehensive cybersecurity suite from Norton that offers antivirus protection, firewall, VPN, and other features; essentially, you can use NextDNS alongside your existing Norton 360 protection to enhance your DNS-level security by utilizing its filtering options.”
this is an issue with my nextdns windows settings, not any browser @bjm on the live update unavaliability. I fixed the error in the browser, at least temporarily until cookie resets.
Please let us know how you turn out. I too am having this same problem since Norton uninstalled my old version and gave me this new one. Cannot Live Update or get my applications updated using the Software Updater. Would like to add however, I have a PiHole on my network that my computer filter’s traffic through, but on the other end is Cloudflare DNS. (1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1) I am also using a VPN through my OpenWRT installed router via Wireguard. Both of these were non-issues with the last version if they are the culprit.
I am having the same issue with NordVPN enabled. If I disconnected NordVPN then Live Update and Software Updates will run. Did not have this problem with previous version of Norton.
Also want to confirm that disconnecting from my VPN (Proton VPN) allows the software update and live update to function once again. Seems like something is being blocked. Also, connecting to Norton’s proprietary VPN seems to work as well.
Norton uses some strange domains to get information about the online offline status of the system (new in V24 not in V22 before). Almost all DNS with adblockers, tracking, malware, phishing will block this. E.g. Pihole, Adblock Plus and many others. That was one reason why I will no longer use Norton. If a security program in the background has to connect to http: (not https) domains that are very ominous, that can’t be a good thing.
but you shouldn’t have to resort to using their VPN or block other security services just to get windows security, They have created an anti-user friendly product. I recently bought a new year from Amazon but I’m considering trashing it and losing the money and go elsewhere. I already found a free solution to Safe Web that they are blocking unless you give them your data through Norton Safe Search Extension, Hijacking your search.
